Eclipse CEO Steps Aside Amidst Sexual Misconduct Claims
May 10, 2024 at 08:23 am
Eclipse CEO Neel Somani has temporarily stepped away from public duties following allegations of sexual misconduct. Somani has denied the allegations but acknowledges their seriousness. Despite his leave of absence, he will remain active as CEO but will reduce his public appearances, including podcasts and panels.

Eclipse CEO Steps Back Amid Sexual Misconduct Allegations
Amidst a growing chorus of accusations, Neel Somani, the CEO and founder of Eclipse, a Layer 2 solution for Ethereum, has announced a temporary leave of absence from his public role.
Somani took to social media on Thursday to address the allegations, unequivocally denying any wrongdoing while acknowledging the severity of the situation. He emphasized his continued active involvement in the company, albeit with reduced participation in public events and discussions.
"I remain actively involved as the CEO, and I will continue to be so," Somani stated. "I will just be taking a break from podcasts/panels."
His decision came after allegations against him surfaced on social media platforms in recent days. Eclipse, represented on social media by its official X account, released a statement reaffirming its commitment to maintaining high standards of personal and professional conduct. The company stressed its unwavering support for women's rights and equity in the workplace.
"The team stands behind the allegations against our founder, Neel Somani, and believes in truth," the statement read.
Eclipse pledged to provide further updates on its senior leadership structure in due course. Despite the internal turmoil, the company reaffirmed its mission of bridging Ethereum and Solana and pioneering the advancement of blockchain technology.
"We remain committed to our vision and will continue to serve our supporters and the broader community," Eclipse stated.
Allegations and Somani's Refusal
The accusations against Somani have sparked a heated online debate, with individuals expressing both support and skepticism. Somani has vehemently denied the allegations, characterizing them as false and slanderous.
In a series of tweets, Somani outlined his defense, asserting that the accusations were fabricated by individuals seeking to harm his reputation and damage Eclipse. He claimed to have ample evidence to refute the allegations and expressed his determination to clear his name.
"These allegations are completely fabricated and designed to damage me and Eclipse," Somani wrote. "I will not let them succeed. I have evidence to prove my innocence, and I will fight back."
Eclipse's Response and Future Direction
Eclipse has adopted a measured approach to the allegations, balancing the need for transparency with due process. The company has stated that it is investigating the matter thoroughly and will take appropriate action based on the findings.
While the investigation is ongoing, Somani will step back from certain public-facing activities to minimize disruption to Eclipse's operations. The company remains optimistic about its future, highlighting its strong team and technological capabilities.
"We are confident that we will emerge from this situation stronger than ever," Eclipse stated. "We remain committed to our mission and will continue to build the future of blockchain technology."
