Doge Runestone Airdrop Celebrates Dogecoin Ordinals Success

Originating from Bitcoin's Ordinals craze, Dogecoin Ordinals launched an airdrop of 30,272 Doge Runestone NFTs, marking a significant milestone in the space. Trading on the secondary market has commenced, with a total volume of 80,142 DOGE and a current floor price of 170 DOGE, enabling new possibilities for Dogecoin-based media through the DRC-420 protocol.

Dogecoin Ordinals Project, Doge Runestone, Conducts Airdrop Following Bitcoin Ordinals Success

In the aftermath of the Bitcoin Ordinals collection, Runestone, which airdropped tokens to eligible wallets, the Doge Runestone, a Dogecoin Ordinals project, has hosted its own airdrop this week to commemorate the milestone.

Following the initial airdrop, the collection of 30,272 Dogecoin NFTs entered trading on the secondary market, amassing a total trading volume of 80,142 DOGE, approximately $15,000 in value. The current floor price for a Doge Runestone on the Ordinals Wallet Dogecoin marketplace sits at 170 DOGE, roughly $32.

Robo AI, the collective behind the Doge Runestone drop, disclosed to Decrypt that it is constructing a DRC-420 protocol on Doginals to facilitate more intricate forms of Dogecoin-based media. A project representative characterized this endeavor as the "first of its kind" for the Dogecoin blockchain.

Emulating the Ordinals inscription phenomenon, Doge Runestone derives its name from the Runestone collection, comprising 112,383 collectibles airdropped to a select group of wallets.

The DRC-20 protocol, introduced in May 2023, enables the creation of fungible tokens on the Dogecoin blockchain. Data from Doginal Explorer indicates the existence of over 150 Dogecoin-themed NFT projects.

Building upon an earlier experiment on the Bitcoin blockchain, an anonymous Dogecoin enthusiast recently integrated a playable version of the classic video game Doom into the Dogecoin blockchain via the Doginals protocol. Ordinal Inscriptions have also made inroads into the Ethereum ecosystem through ETHscriptions.

Leonidas, a pseudonymous NFT historian and co-creator of the Bitcoin Runestone project, expressed his support for airdrops that follow the Runestone model.

"Runestone established a new template for token distribution that we refer to as the free and fair model," Leonidas told Decrypt. "Witnessing other projects adopt this model brings me immense joy. The proliferation of airdrops similar to Runestone can only benefit the community."
