Crypto.com's Dubai branch, CRO DAX Middle East FZE, has obtained full operational approval from Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA). This marks a significant regulatory milestone, as Crypto.com becomes the first cryptocurrency exchange authorized to handle fiat transactions in the United Arab Emirates. The exchange will offer a range of financial services, including spot trading, staking, brokerage, and OTC trading, primarily targeting institutional and qualified retail investors.

Crypto.com Secures Operational Approval in Dubai, Revolutionizing Crypto Landscape in the UAE
In a landmark achievement, Crypto.com's Dubai branch, CRO DAX Middle East FZE, has acquired full operational approval from the Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA). This pivotal milestone, announced on April 9, marks a groundbreaking moment, as Crypto.com becomes the first cryptocurrency exchange authorized to conduct fiat transactions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The green light from VARA comes after Crypto.com meticulously fulfilled all pre-operational requirements diligently set by the regulatory body since obtaining its virtual asset service provider license in November 2023. With this elevated operational status, Crypto.com anticipates rolling out an array of exchange services meticulously designed to cater to both institutional and qualified retail investors.
The platform's comprehensive financial services portfolio will encompass spot trading, staking, brokerage, and Over-The-Counter (OTC) trading, with a strategic focus on facilitating settlements for specific markets. Eric Anziani, Crypto.com's President and COO, hailed this achievement as a testament to the company's unwavering commitment to regulatory compliance and responsible industry advancement.
"Being the first global crypto operator operational with fiat in the UAE is a momentous milestone and underscores our dedication to collaborating closely with regulators to propel the industry forward responsibly," Anziani emphasized. He further elaborated on the imminent institutional services exchange as a driving force behind the company's robust growth trajectory in the region.
Stuart Isted, Crypto.com's General Manager for the Middle East and Africa, echoed the company's unwavering resolve to uphold regulatory compliance and responsible industry growth in synergistic partnership with VARA.
Crypto.com, founded in 2016 in Hong Kong and currently headquartered in Singapore, has relentlessly expanded its global footprint. The company has navigated the evolving regulatory landscape in Europe, anticipating the significant impact of the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) on the expansion of prominent crypto exchanges.
Strategic partnerships have been instrumental in Crypto.com's global growth strategy. The company collaborated with Latin America's largest investment bank to support the BTG Dol stablecoin, and it also spearheaded the launch of a cryptocurrency trading app in South Korea.
Despite its remarkable achievements, Crypto.com has faced regulatory challenges, including a fine from the Dutch central bank for registration issues. However, the exchange contested this fine while maintaining its operations in The Netherlands, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to regulatory compliance.
Crypto.com's steadfast dedication to regulatory compliance, strategic partnerships, and adept navigation of evolving regulatory landscapes underscore the company's ambitious vision to cement its position as a global powerhouse in the burgeoning cryptocurrency market.
