US Crypto Traders Suffer Millions in Fetch.ai Sell-Off

Apr 21, 2024 at 06:47 pm

Two cryptocurrency traders capitulated in a one-month trade with Fetch.ai (FET), incurring losses of $2.61 million. Whale 0xdf8 sold $6.66 million worth of FET, resulting in a $1.64 million loss, while Whale 0x9eb lost approximately $977,000 in their first FET trading cycle. The sell-off by these whales could potentially dampen the momentum of FET and other AI-related cryptocurrencies, raising concerns about a shift in market narratives.

US Crypto Traders Suffer Millions in Fetch.ai Sell-Off

Two Cryptocurrency Traders Incur Substantial Losses in Fetch.ai Trading

In a significant development within the cryptocurrency market, two major traders have reportedly capitulated their positions in Fetch.ai (FET), resulting in substantial financial losses. According to SpotOnChain, a leading blockchain analytics firm, these traders incurred a combined loss of approximately $2.61 million in a single month of trading.

Whale-Scale Dumping Triggers Losses

The initial sell-off was initiated by 'Whale 0xdf8', who liquidated their entire holdings of 2.739 million FET tokens for 2,095 Ethereum (ETH), valued at $6.66 million. The sales were executed at an average price of $2.431 per token, marking the conclusion of their fifth FET trading cycle.

Having purchased these tokens on March 26 for an average cost of $3.031 per token, 'Whale 0xdf8' realized losses of $1.64 million on this one-month trade. This significant loss reduced their ETH holdings by approximately 20%.

Second Trader Followed Suit

In a similar move, 'Whale 0x9eb' capitulated their positions, incurring losses of around $977,000 in their first FET trading cycle. This trader had bought 1.504 million FET at an estimated cost of $4.55 million. Subsequently, they sold their entire holdings for $3.58 million in three Ethereum transactions between April 1 and April 21.

AI Narrative Faces Headwinds

The sell-offs come at a time when the artificial intelligence (AI) narrative has surged within the cryptocurrency market. Projects like Fetch.ai have seen remarkable growth, with year-to-date gains of nearly 260%. However, the recent whale-scale dumpings have raised concerns about the sustainability of the AI narrative.

If other traders follow suit, Fetch.ai could face a loss of momentum, potentially benefiting other cryptocurrencies and narratives. As of the time of writing, FET is trading at $2.42, showing a slight increase of approximately 10% over the past 24 hours.

Capitulation in Cryptocurrency Market

The capitulation of these two traders highlights the volatile nature of the cryptocurrency market. Traders must exercise caution and carefully consider their investment strategies, as market sentiment can shift rapidly. While narratives can provide guidance, they should not be solely relied upon for investment decisions.

The cryptocurrency market remains highly speculative, and investors should be prepared for both gains and losses. The information provided in this article does not constitute financial advice, and investors are advised to conduct their own research before making any investment decisions.
