Crypto's Place in the 2024 Presidential Election
Sep 06, 2024 at 04:30 pm
Coinbase CFO Alesia Haas recently proposed using the exchange's Commerce platform to allow cryptocurrency payments to be sent to US Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign.

Coinbase CFO Highlights Kamala Harris Campaign Accepting Crypto Payments, While Putin Pledges Support for Harris over Trump
Coinbase CFO Alesia Haas has stated that US Vice President Kamala Harris is using the exchange’s Commerce platform to accept cryptocurrency donations.
Speaking at Citi’s 2024 Global TMT Conference in New York on September 4, Haas said that Harris has a “huge opportunity” to win over voters in the 2024 election by endorsing legislation that benefits the cryptocurrency sector.
“Vice President Harris is now accepting cryptocurrency contributions for her campaign through Coinbase Commerce,” a Harris campaign spokesperson clarified.
According to Open Secrets, the campaign is accepting cryptocurrency donations via Future Forward PAC. The super PAC has raised over $163 million to support Harris, as reported by the campaign.
In 2020, Future Forward spent $150 million to help then-Vice President Joe Biden win the presidency. His senior adviser Anita Dunn, who reportedly attended meetings with industry executives to discuss crypto policy, is set to join the super PAC after Biden announced he will not seek reelection in 2024.

Coinbase CFO Highlights Kamala Harris Campaign Accepting Crypto Payments, While Putin Pledges Support for Harris over Trump
Harris is now able to accept cryptocurrency contributions through Future Forward PAC, a super PAC that has raised over $163 million to support her campaign, according to Open Secrets.
Meanwhile, on the opposing end of the political spectrum, Republican front-runner Donald Trump has accepted Bitcoin contributions throughout his campaign.
Gemini co-founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss donated $2 million to Trump, who is portrayed as being pro-crypto. This comes after they recently accused the Biden administration of being against crypto.
The Winklevoss twins also donated an estimated $4.9 million to Fairshake, a super PAC that supports politicians who promote cryptocurrencies.
While Fairshake’s war chest exceeds Future Forward’s total cash raised by more than $202 million, the crypto super PAC has faced backlash from some Republican Party members after donating money to two Democratic lawmakers running against Trump-backed Senate candidates in Michigan and Arizona.
On the other hand, Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared support for Harris over Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
Putin stated that Moscow “will support her” in the upcoming election, adding that he finds Harris’ laugh “fascinating.”
These comments come after the Justice Department accused Russia of funding Tenet, who then paid conservative influencers for videos.
At the moment, it’s unclear what exactly Russia’s goal is with these payments or how they will affect the upcoming election.
