Global Crypto Market Surges, Bitcoin Breaks $62,000 Barrier
The global cryptocurrency market witnessed a significant surge on Monday, with the total market capitalization soaring by 1.89% to reach a staggering $2.26 trillion. The surge was fueled by a massive increase in trading volume, which witnessed a remarkable 41.7% increase to reach $52.35 billion.
Bitcoin Breaks $62,000 Barrier
Bitcoin (BTC), the leading cryptocurrency, emerged as the top performer, surging by 3.21% to trade at $62,782.01. This surge represents a significant milestone for Bitcoin, marking the first time it has crossed the $62,000 threshold since its all-time high in November 2021. The surge in Bitcoin's price was accompanied by a robust trading volume of $611.69 million, reflecting the renewed interest in the digital asset.
Lido DAO and Other Altcoins Gain Momentum
Lido DAO (LDO) emerged as the top gainer among altcoins, posting a notable 2.30% increase in value. This surge was attributed to the growing popularity of liquid staking platforms, which allow users to earn rewards by staking their cryptocurrencies without losing access to them.
Dogwifhat Suffers Losses
On the downside, dogwifhat (WIF) emerged as the top loser, plummeting by a substantial 10.83%. This decline was attributed to profit-taking after a recent rally.
DeFi Sector Experiences Slight Decline
The decentralized finance (DeFi) sector witnessed a modest decline of 1.73%, with the total value locked (TVL) dropping to $6.04 billion, according to Coinmarketcap.com.
