Crypto exchange Bitget commemorates Bitcoin's most legendary transaction by uniting communities

Crypto exchange Bitget is getting festive and uniting communities through pizza and conversation on decentralization. As part of its efforts, Bitget has put together a global event distributing more than 5,000 pizzas across over 20 cities for Bitcoin Pizza Day.

Celebrating Bitcoin’s Most Legendary Transaction

Bitcoin Pizza Day, celebrated annually on May 22, commemorates the 2010 transaction where Laszlo Hanyecz famously paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas. This event is widely regarded as the first real-world transaction using Bitcoin.

At the time, the deal was valued at around $41. However, today, with Bitcoin valued at $105K per unit, that same amount of BTC would be worth over $1.05 billion.

Given the massive increase in Bitcoin’s value over the past 15 years, the day has become a symbolic reminder of Bitcoin’s humble beginnings and its journey toward mainstream adoption.

Bitget’s Campaign Spans 5 Continents and Builds Community

This year, Bitget is bringing the celebration to new heights with a global event. Bitget will be hosting pizza parties and community events in over 20 cities across four continents: Africa, Latin America, Europe, and Asia.

From Abuja and Cape Town to Florence, Mexico City, Metro Manila, and Ho Chi Minh City, the events will bring together over 2,000 crypto enthusiasts.

Between May 19 and 22, attendees can come not just for the pizza but to connect, share ideas, and discuss Bitcoin’s evolution and its role in shaping the future of decentralized finance.

Beyond the fun tradition, Bitget’s campaign is part of a broader mission to foster grassroots crypto awareness. The events will combine casual networking with educational discussions, allowing traders, newcomers, and blockchain developers to engage in conversations around innovation, adoption, and financial sovereignty.

“Every year, we celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day because it reminds us how far this industry has come. From 10,000 BTC worth just $40 to now nearing $1 billion. It’s one of our favourite days to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve all been a part of,” said Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget.
