Crypto Community Demonstrates Massive Support For Bitcoin Reserve Bill

Aug 03, 2024 at 10:00 am

Bitcoin as a strategic reserve asset in the United States is witnessing significant reactions from the cryptocurrency industry as Dennis Porter, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and co-founder of Satoshi Action Fund has revealed a huge wave of letters from the community to the US Senators urging them to endorse the bill, poised to bolster the American economy.

Crypto Community Demonstrates Massive Support For Bitcoin Reserve Bill

Dennis Porter, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and co-founder of Satoshi Action Fund, has highlighted a wave of letters from the cryptocurrency community to US Senators. These letters are urging the senators to support a bill that would designate Bitcoin (BTC) as a strategic reserve asset in the United States.

Following the introduction of the BTC Strategy Reserve Bill, also known as the Boosting Innovation, Technology, and Competitiveness through Optimized Investment Nationwide (BITCOIN) Act of 2024, by US Senator Cynthia Lummis on Wednesday, the crypto community has rallied to show their support for the initiative.

Lummis, a known crypto advocate, initially teased the bill during the Bitcoin2024 conference in Nashville, Tennessee, before presenting it officially on Wednesday. The bill aims to bolster the American financial system by allowing BTC to act as a hedge against inflation and a support for the US dollar.

The legislation would specifically mandate the US Treasury to purchase approximately 1 million BTC over five years, to be held as a strategic reserve asset to stabilize the dollar. It would also establish a decentralized network of secure BTC vaults to be managed by the US Department of Treasury, with legal criteria to ensure the highest levels of physical and cybersecurity protection for the country's BTC assets.

“Bitcoin is changing not just our country but the world, and becoming the first developed nation to use Bitcoin as a savings technology will secure our standing as a global leader in financial innovation,” Lummis said. "The BITCOIN Act establishes a strategic Bitcoin reserve to serve as an additional store of value to bolster America's balance sheet and ensure the transparent management of Bitcoin holdings by the federal government.”

Upon the introduction of the bill, Satoshi Action Fund Co-founder Dennis Porter started a campaign to enable the crypto community to share their thoughts on the legislation with US Senators. According to Porter, nearly a day after sharing the campaign on the X (formerly Twitter) platform, over 1,100 letters have been sent to the senators. This demonstrates the growing support for recognizing Bitcoin as a strategic asset for the US.

The data shared by the CEO shows that Democrats received around 649 letters, which is nearly 60% of the total, while Republicans received over 442. The letters aim to highlight the importance of including BTC in the national financial plan to the lawmakers.

The BITCOIN Act of 2024 has also garnered support from major institutions within the crypto industry. Digital Chamber, a leading blockchain trade association, sent a letter to US Senators, urging them to back the act. The institution's involvement stems from its dedication to advancing a forward-thinking approach to crypto policies.

The company's participation in this initiative is driven by its belief that the legislation can pave the way for a better economic future for the nation. "This bill aligns with our national interests, demonstrates fiscal responsibility, and embraces technological advancements to alleviate economic burdens,” the firm stated.
