Crypto and Artificial Intelligence Could be a $20 Trillion Megatrend, Bitwise Says

Asset manager Bitwise has claimed that artificial intelligence (AI) and crypto could add a combined $20 trillion to the global economy by 2030 in a report on Wednesday.

The report, which was shared with Blockworks, highlights the growing convergence between AI and crypto, with both industries poised to drive significant economic output in the coming years.

“The intersection of AI and crypto is going to be even bigger than people imagine,” said Juan Leon, senior crypto research analyst at Bitwise, in the report.

“The two industries could add a collective $20 trillion to global gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030.”

According to Leon, the increasing demand for AI is putting a strain on data centers, AI chips and access to electricity, with the four largest cloud companies expected to spend around $200 billion on data center build-outs in 2025.

“This spending is largely to service the growing demand from AI companies,” Leon said.

“However, crypto miners have all the resources that these AI firms need: powerful chips, hi-tech cooling systems and accompanying infrastructure.”

The report also notes CoreWeave's takeover offer for bitcoin miner Core Scientific (CORZ) as an example of this demand, with Core Scientific also announcing the largest miner/AI partnership to date in a $3.5 billion deal to host CoreWeave's AI related services.

Hut 8 (HUT), Iris Energy (IREN) and other miners have also announced AI-hosting initiatives this year, according to Bitwise.

“Crypto and AI have the potential to intersect in other areas as well, such as information validation and virtual assistants,” the report adds.
