Coinbase Launches AI Builder Grants Program to Merge Artificial Intelligence With Blockchain Technology

Coinbase Developer Platform (CDP) has announced the launch of its AI Builder Grants Program, a unique initiative that aims to combine artificial intelligence (AI) with blockchain technology.

The program will award five grants of $3,000 each, totaling $15,000, to support the creation of AI bots that can utilize Coinbase’s Multi-Party Computation (MPC) Wallets.

Here's a closer look at the Coinbase program and its goals.

Coinbase's Program in Detail

The initiative is designed to spark innovation by inviting developers to build AI bots that can operate on-chain using Coinbase’s MPC Wallets. These wallets enable AI agents to send and receive payments in USD Coin (USDC) without fees on Base, a layer-2 Ethereum scaling solution. Moreover, the AI agents can earn a yield on their USDC wallet balances.

To be eligible for a grant, projects must meet two key requirements: they must involve the creation of AI bots that use Coinbase’s MPC Wallets, and grant applications must be submitted before the September 5th, 2024 deadline.

A team from Coinbase will evaluate the applications based on creativity, utility, and real-world usage. It's important to note that grants will be awarded after the deadline.

Addressing Challenges in AI Finance

A driving goal of the AI Builder Grants Program is to address the challenges that AI agents currently face in the financial landscape.

AI agents, unlike humans, cannot open bank accounts to handle automated payments. This is where on-chain solutions become crucial. The program aims to unlock new possibilities for AI-driven financial applications by combining AI with blockchain technology.

Coinbase's Co-Founder and CEO highlighted the program's significance, stating, “LLMs should have crypto wallets. Let’s help AI agents get work done (on your behalf) and participate in the economy.”

Interested developers can apply for the grants through Deform. However, applications will close on September 5th, 2024, so don't delay.

Coinbase is eager to witness the creations of developers, particularly AI bots that leverage MPC Wallets.

For those looking to get started, Coinbase provides extensive documentation and support on Discord to assist in bringing ideas to fruition.

The AI Builder Grants Program marks a significant step in integrating AI with blockchain, paving the way for a new frontier of AI-driven financial solutions.
