Coinbase Joins Forces with Stripe to Increase Crypto Adoption Across the Globe

Crypto exchange Coinbase has announced a new partnership with Stripe, a crypto payout platform, to enhance interoperability between crypto and fiat for users.

The partnership will enable users to transact seamlessly between digital assets and traditional currency, according to a statement on Coinbase's website.

Specifically, the integration will include compatibility with USD Coin on the Ethereum L2 blockchain Base, which is included in Stripe's crypto payout mechanism.

This integration will facilitate efficient and fast cross-border remittances and settlements across 150 countries. The partnership will also see USDC available as part of Stripe's offerings to convert fiat currency to digital assets, making it easier for new customers to get started with crypto.

Additionally, Coinbase is leveraging Stripe's technology to allow its customers to purchase crypto assets using Apple Pay and credit cards, enhancing convenience and accessibility for users.

The collaboration serves as a strategic development for Stripe, following through on a commitment made earlier in 2024 by John Collison, Stripe president and co-founder.

During The Sessions conference hosted by the platform, Collison highlighted the return of stablecoins to Stripe's services, underscoring the growing significance of digital currencies in the payment landscape.

Stripe had previously integrated Bitcoin in 2014, but it phased out crypto in 2018, citing its lack of mainstream usage at the time. However, the company recently began supporting Avalanche C-Chain, allowing verified users to purchase AVAX coins directly through the platform.

The partnership between Coinbase and Stripe marks a crucial juncture in the evolution of the crypto sector, indicating increasing mainstream acceptance and promising to bridge the gap between digital and fiat currencies.
