Brian Armstrong, CEO of crypto exchange Coinbase (Nasdaq: COIN), announced a significant milestone in an article published on social media platform X Friday.

Coinbase CEO Announces First AI-to-AI Cryptocurrency Transaction
Coinbase (Nasdaq: COIN) CEO Brian Armstrong highlighted a new application of digital currency in a recent post, announcing the platform's first AI-to-AI cryptocurrency transaction. Armstrong showcased how artificial intelligence (AI) agents can use crypto to purchase tokens, demonstrating a novel use case for blockchain technology.
According to Armstrong, AI agents, such as those powered by large language models (LLMs), are now capable of conducting transactions autonomously thanks to the integration of crypto wallets. These transactions can be completed without the need for human intervention or the use of traditional financial instruments.
In his announcement, Armstrong stated that this advancement will enhance AI’s capacity to independently obtain resources and engage with humans and other AI systems. He highlighted the potential for AI agents to utilize crypto wallets to purchase compute, data, or other services autonomously, enabling them to complete tasks more efficiently.
The Coinbase CEO also emphasized the role of developers in supporting the growth of AI-to-AI transactions. He encouraged developers to add crypto wallets to their AI models and integrate them with Coinbase’s MPC Wallets. Additionally, he advised businesses to prepare for AI-enabled checkouts, as the integration of financial services for AI could benefit all parties involved.
“It turns out everyone benefits from having access to good financial services, including AIs!” Armstrong concluded.
