Coinbase (COIN) Stock: Is It the Next Big Thing in Crypto?

Coinbase (COIN) Stock: Is It the Next Big Thing in Crypto?

Coinbase Global, Inc. (NASDAQ:COIN) shares edged up 0.7% on Friday, reaching highs of $303.60 in a session that saw trading volume fall noticeably.

Only 1.7 million shares were exchanged compared to the usual average of 8 million as the stock hovered around the $300 mark.

Coinbase shares have been experiencing a roller coaster ride in recent months, largely influenced by the ups and downs of the crypto market itself.

Just this week, B. Riley kicked off coverage with a “neutral” rating, setting a price target of $185, while on the other hand, Needham & Company upgraded their outlook, bumping the price objective up to $420 and marking Coinbase as a “buy.”

To top it off, the average analyst consensus now hovers around a “Moderate Buy” with a suggestive price target of $289.06.

Coinbase also posted an earnings beat and surprise loss recently, with revenue hitting $1.21 billion in the fourth quarter, marking an impressive 78.8% increase year-over-year, although it fell short of expectations.

Meanwhile, the company's current market cap stands at a staggering $73.19 billion.

Making another interesting move, CEO Brian Armstrong sold 58,269 shares of Coinbase, valued at over $19 million, as reported by the recent Form 4 filing with the SEC.

On the other hand, institutional investors remained heavily invested in Coinbase, with the latest 13F filing showing that the Vanguard Group, Inc. (NYSE:VTI) increased its stake in the company by 41.9% during the fourth quarter.

As cryptocurrency continues to captivate investors, Coinbase remains a focal point, reflecting both the volatility and potential of the digital asset landscape.

While analysts' ratings might be mixed, Coinbase's resilience and growth suggest it's a player to watch in the evolving crypto economy.
