This 1905 coin could be worth a fortune - here's how to spot it in your collection

Coin collectors could be sitting on a small fortune without even realising it. Over the years, we've seen all kinds of pieces flog for thousands on eBay.

In a brief video on the platform, the TikToker detailed the pre-decimal UK coin, noting it has a "very low" mintage of just 166,000.

They explained: "Half crowns from this date have 92.5% silver in them too, which means it will also hold a silver value too."

The social media user further noted the British half crown was a denomination of Sterling coinage, equivalent to two shillings and six pence, and was first issued way back in 1549.

"So if you are lucky enough to find a half crowned dated 1905 then you are looking at £9,000 in uncirculated condition," they added.

"Even if the coin isn't the best quality, it can still sell for £500, £1,500 and even £4,000 so it really does depend on the condition with the one."

Since being posted, the clip racked up hundreds of views and likes, as one viewer said: "Great video mate," while others asked questions about other potentially valuable coins.
