While they are very rare, one coin expert said there's still a chance you could find one in your change.

$2 coin can fetch you up to $300 thanks to one key detail

A small fortune could be hidden in your loose change with one key detail.

An expert from Coin Value disclosed that the 1992 Commonwealth Games $2 coin in uncirculated condition could fetch a tidy sum of up to $300.

"While they are very rare, there is still a chance you could find one in your change," the expert added.

Also disclosed was that the $2 coins used to commemorate Remembrance Day were also highly sought-after by collectors.

Annually, the Royal Australian Mint would release limited quantities of new coins to mark special events or anniversaries. In 2022, two $2 coins to commemorate Remembrance Day. The $2 Gold Poppy coin was the uncoloured version with the iconic flower, while the $2 Red Poppy coin featured a vibrant coloured flower at the centre.

According to Yahoo Finance the $2 Red Poppy coins were the first coloured coins made by the Mint and were still extremely popular among collectors.

The coins usually sold for $300, but values could range from $250 to $350 depending on supply and demand.

In other news, coins with good colour and no blemishes in the strike or raised detail would sell for a premium. Coins with good colour and some light surface marks would still command decent prices.

Coins with chipped paint would still be worth a decent amount.

C Mintmark versions of the coins, which is where the Mint put a letter C on the coin for Canberra. Only 40,902 of the mintmark coins in the official folders were released.
