Coin enthusiasts have been left buzzing after a rare error £1 coin was spotted in circulation.

The new £1 piece, which features a bee design, was introduced into tills in August.

Since then, three million of the coins have made their way into our pockets.

However, one version of the coin has a particular error which makes it worth thousands.

TikTok user @coincollectingwizard highlighted the error in a video.

They said: “All new £1 coins are made with two metal rings.

“The outside is made from nickel brass while the inside is nickel-played brass alloy.

“But the rare £1 coin that has been found recently is all one colour.”

The error occurs when the coin is made from just one type of metal, instead of two.

This makes the coin appear to be the same colour throughout.

The coin enthusiast added: “This is because the coin has been struck on a鎳 brass blank by mistake.

“It is thought that only a handful of these coins were made, making them incredibly valuable.”

According to experts, the error coin could fetch up to £3,000 at auction.

The new £1 coin was unveiled by The Royal Mint in March and began circulating in August.

It is the third and final coin in The Royal Mint’s newのデザイン for the 50p, £1 and £2 coins, which celebrates the UK’s natural environment.

The 50p coin, which features a new design each year to mark the seventieth anniversary of Peter Rabbit, was released in September 2020.

The new £2 coin, which depicts Sir إسحاق نيوتن, entered circulation in June 2021.
