'I'm a cleaning expert – this 2p solution will get rid of limescale in just 15 seconds'
Apr 30, 2025 at 05:19 pm
A cleaning expert has revealed her 2p solution for removing limescale in just 15 seconds.
For anyone averse to using chemicals to scrape off dirt and grime from their taps, one professional cleaner has talked up a simple solution that takes little time at all.
Limescale stains are often the culprits behind most tarnished taps and can prove a nightmare to shift, especially for those seeking an effortless, speedy solution. Despite the availability of numerous limescale removal sprays in the shops, they can be pricey and sometimes fall short of effectively tackling the problem.
Now one cleaning expert has shared what she claimed was "the single best way to remove limescale" - and it involves something you'd find buried in your pocket. Shauna Newth, a professional cleaner from Essex, shared a video on her TikTok account highlighting her "crazy" solution - a 2p coin.
In her video captioned: "We all have them! Use a 2p to remove that built-up limescale that won't budge," Shauna showcased the issue with her own bathroom tap which is heavily coated in limescale, saying: "No matter what I use on this tap, this limescale just does not seem to go."
Shauna, who runs her own cleaning company, began her video by thoroughly soaking a 2p coin under running water, insisting: "Absolutely drench that 2p. You need to make sure it is soaking wet."
She then gently rubbed the tap with the drenched coin, taking care to highlight: "You don't want to be absolutely pushing the 2p piece crazy against the faucet, but make sure you give it a little bit of pressure."
After carrying out the hack, Shauna exclaimed: "That limescale just comes straight off. Look at that! Absolutely incredible!"
This quick fix takes less than 15 seconds and requires zero cleaning products, making it as convenient as it is effective, reports the Express.
So, how does a 2p coin work as a descaling hack? It's believed that the coin creates a chemical reaction between copper and limescale to break it down.
This unexpected 2p trick can also be used to remove limescale from shower heads and even toilet bowls and seats.
Alternatively, many cleaning enthusiasts recommend using lemons or vinegar when it comes to tackling limescale. Both lemons and vinegar are acidic, which means they can break down the calcium carbonate that forms limescale.
