Did The CIA Invent Bitcoin?

Ever since Bitcoin (BTC) was created fifteen years ago, crypto community members have been trying to unmask the real identity of Satoshi Nakamoto.

Media personality Tucker Carlson has claimed that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) created Bitcoin (BTC).

During a private event at the Bitcoin 2024 Conference, Carlson stated, “Obviously it was the CIA, we all know that.” He added that the agency's involvement in crypto is evident, likening it to Signal and describing it as a “honeytrap.”

“Somebody should answer that,” Carlson said regarding the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto. “I think we know.”

The former Fox News journalist's remarks sparked discussion on the X platform, with figures like ex-UFC/MMA fighter Jake Shields sharing Carlson's clip.

Carlson's theory is not entirely new, as rumors of CIA involvement in Bitcoin have circulated on social media platforms like Reddit.

However, the CIA's interest in crypto has been acknowledged by its officials. Director William Burns stated that the agency has launched several projects to monitor cryptocurrencies.

Moreover, former CIA boss Michael Morell has expressed that the technology behind Bitcoin is a “boon for surveillance” and should be embraced by governments.

Within the crypto community, some have countered Carlson's claim, speculating that the CIA's involvement occurred later with Ether (ETH). Others, like John Hawkins, have dismissed Carlson's statement as unfounded speculation.

For staunch Bitcoin proponents, the identity of Bitcoin's creator is ultimately irrelevant, given the transparency of the project's code and ledger.
