Cardano Processes Over 134,000 Transactions Per Second (tps) in Hydra Doom Tournament

Cardano has processed over 134,000 transactions per second (tps), marking a significant milestone in the platform's development.

Cardano (ADA) has processed over 134,000 transactions per second (tps), showcasing the platform’s capability for high-speed transactions.

Input Output Global (IOG) CEO Charles Hoskinson shared his excitement on Twitter X, posting a screenshot displaying 134,464 tps and writing, “Not bad Cardano. #HailHydra.”

When asked whether the achievement was on the testnet, Hoskinson clarified that it was “Hydra Doom,” adding that every frame of the game is a transaction and that the output increases as people play.

The surge in transactions is linked to the $100,000 Hydra Doom Tournament being hosted by IOG, which began on Monday.

Cardano Hits 28,500 TPS in Pre-Event Test for Doom Tournament

During a pre-event test on December 2, Cardano already hit 28,500 tps. Hoskinson hinted at the network's capacity at the time, noting that “Cardano is running some BIG loads right now.”

The tournament serves as both a competitive gaming platform and a live demonstration of Cardano's Layer 2 scalability solution, Hydra.

According to IOG's announcement, the tournament will "unite thousands of players worldwide in a competitive showcase of gaming classic Doom running on the Cardano blockchain, powered by the groundbreaking scaling solution Hydra.”

Participants will battle against AI bots designed to push the protocol to new limits of throughput and speed, highlighting the protocol's performance and security.

The event features several figures from the gaming and entertainment industries, including Twitch creator PotasticP, multi-platinum hip-hop artist MIMS, former DOOM 3 champion and Esports Hall of Famer Fatal1ty, and actor Chris Pang. Espспорт personalities Dgon and Raynday are hosting the tournament.

The tournament will include global online qualifiers, where players can join during a two-hour window on Monday to compete for a share of the $100,000 prize pool. Top performers will advance to the finals in Las Vegas in January 2025, where they will compete live at a professional esports arena.

Hydra is Cardano's Layer 2 scalability solution, developed through peer-reviewed research. It is designed to provide high transaction speeds, instant finality, and minimal costs, aiming to facilitate Cardano's mass adoption.
