Cardano (ADA) Network Adoption Has Hit a Phase of Stagnation During the Past Year

An analytics firm has discussed about how the adoption of the Cardano (ADA) network has hit a phase of stagnation during the past year.

Cardano (ADA) Network Adoption Has Hit a Phase of Stagnation During the Past Year

Cardano (ADA) adoption has hit a phase of stagnation over the past year, as shown by data from IntoTheBlock. The total number of Cardano addresses holding a non-zero balance has remained largely unchanged during this period.

A key metric used to gauge user adoption in the cryptocurrency space is the total number of addresses that hold some amount of a particular digital asset. This metric serves as an indicator of the asset's overall distribution and provides insights into the level of interest and engagement among investors.

As evident from the chart shared by the analytics firm, Cardano enjoyed substantial growth in its holder base during the 2021 bull run. However, the increase in this metric slowed down during the 2022 bear market and eventually plateaued over the past year.

This trend suggests that while cryptocurrency adoption was gaining significant momentum during the last bull run, new investors no longer find the network to be particularly attractive.

According to IntoTheBlock, the growth during the previous cycle occurred as ADA was being positioned as a strong alternative to Ethereum. However, at present, investors are being drawn to other networks such as Solana and Base.

Historically, adoption has played a crucial role for any asset, as a wider user base can provide a stronger foundation for sustained growth over the long term. With ADA's holders remaining largely unchanged at around the 4.45 million mark, the coin's performance in terms of this metric appears to be lacking.

On the other hand, some positive developments have also been noted for Cardano. As highlighted by the analytics firm, the network has observed a stable trend in daily active addresses since April.

An active address is defined as one that engages in any type of transaction activity on the blockchain. Hence, the daily active addresses metric reflects the number of users utilizing the network on a daily basis.

“Despite the slowdown in new users, the network's transaction count and active user base have remained stable since April, indicating a committed community that continues to engage with the protocol,” IntoTheBlock noted.

Moreover, Cardano has been processing a high daily volume of $7.2 billion recently, which surpasses the transaction volume of many other networks.

It also appears that HODLing conviction has been increasing among Cardano investors, with close to 40% of the supply remaining dormant for a period of one year or more.

At the time of writing, Cardano (ADA) is trading at around $0.336, exhibiting an increase of over 3% over the last seven days.
