CaliCoin (CALICOIN), a New Solana-based Meme Token Created by a Brain-computer Interface Pioneer, Achieved $30M Market Capitalization Within 2 Hours of Its Launch

A new Solana (SOL)-based meme token, CaliCoin (CALICOIN), hit a market capitalization of $30 million within two hours of its launch, data from GeckoTerminal shows.

The token was created by Nathan Copeland, a brain-computer interface (BCI) pioneer who has been living with quadriplegia following a car accident in 2004.

Copeland, who has the longest history of BCI implantation—a decade—at the University of Pittsburgh, according to the project’s official website, has four micro-electrode arrays implanted in his brain that enable him to control a robotic arm and receive sensory feedback.

He has used BCI technology to perform various computer tasks, including digital art creation and playing video games like Pac Man and Sonic the Hedgehog, Copeland said.

The 38-year-old has also expanded his digital art pursuits by creating and selling NFT artwork.

Tether (USDT) CEO Paolo Ardoino said last July that he had received artwork made by Copeland using his BCI, which demonstrated a groundbreaking achievement that opens up possibilities for people with disabilities to interact with the world in new ways.

“Today I was gifted an artwork made by Nathan Copeland @BCIcanDoBetter , controlling directly a computer with his brain thoughts, using a BCI (brain-computer-interface) implant with @BlackrockNeuro_ 's technology,” Ardoino wrote in a June 29, 2024, tweet.

“Nathan's implant was performed almost 10 years ago, highlighting…”Today I was gifted an artwork made by Nathan Copeland @BCIcanDoBetter , controlling directly a computer with his brain thoughts, using a BCI (brain-computer-interface) implant with @BlackrockNeuro_ 's technology.

A Tuesday evening video on Copeland’s official YouTube channel appears to confirm that he also used his BCI to create the CaliCoin token, interacting directly with the computer and the Pump.fun platform.
