Blockchain's Novel Fundraising: Node Sales Take Center Stage
May 09, 2024 at 01:50 am
Blockchain Community Shifts to Node Sales for FundraisingIn a recent development within the blockchain industry, companies are embracing "node sales" as a means of raising funds. This approach entails selling blockchain nodes directly to investors, enabling projects to obtain rapid capital while promoting decentralization. Notable projects such as Aethir, CARV, and Sophon have already leveraged node sales to secure millions of dollars in funding, highlighting the growing adoption of this novel fundraising method.

Blockchain Industry's Novel Fundraising Method: Node Sales
The blockchain industry has witnessed the emergence of a novel fundraising technique known as "node sales," which capitalizes on the decentralizing impact of blockchain technology. Node sales entail the direct sale of blockchain nodes to investors, providing projects with a swift cash influx while facilitating their path towards decentralization.
This approach has gained momentum in the rapidly evolving crypto landscape, with notable projects such as Aethir, CARV, XAI Games, and Powerloom utilizing node sales to raise substantial funds. The latest entrant is Sophon, an entertainment-focused blockchain ecosystem that harnesses zkSync technology and relies on Celestia for data processing. Sophon's recent node sale attracted over $60 million, despite its founders' semi-anonymous status.
Certain mechanisms employed in node sales are designed to foster a sense of urgency, such as tiered pricing structures where the price escalates with each node sold. Additionally, exclusive whitelists are utilized to reserve early node purchases for specific users.
"Investors are drawn to the potential of high-quality projects," notes Calvin Chu, a former Binance researcher who played a role in launching Impossible Finance, a facilitator of node sales. As with other crypto-related investments, buyers anticipate generous yields in the form of token rewards and potential airdrops in the future.
"Address Poisoning" Attack: Cryptocurrency User Loses Millions
A cryptocurrency user has fallen victim to an exploit known as "address poisoning," resulting in the loss of $68 million worth of wrapped bitcoin (WWBTC). Blockchain security firm CertiK attributes the attack to a technique that involves tricking victims into sending legitimate transactions to an incorrect wallet address. This method leverages the first and last six characters of the genuine wallet address and relies on the sender's inadvertent oversight of discrepancies in the intervening characters.
In this instance, the attacker replicated a 0.05 ether (ETH) transaction before receiving a transfer of 1,155 wrapped bitcoin from the victim.
Ongoing Turmoil at Poloniex and Tornado Cash
A hacker responsible for stealing $125 million from Poloniex's hot wallets in November has transferred 1,100 ether (ETH) to Tornado Cash, a sanctioned coin mixer. This development has sparked concerns as the developers of Tornado Cash, a protocol designed to obscure the origins and destinations of cryptocurrency transfers, face charges of money laundering conspiracy from U.S. authorities. The developers, however, maintain that their actions were limited to writing code.
