BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) Surges to the Top of ETF Inflows

BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) Surges to the Top of ETF Inflows

In a surprising turn of events, BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) has topped the charts for ETF inflows in the entire U.S. market on a single-day basis.

As Bloomberg’s Senior ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas points out, this is a rare occurrence, especially considering the usually dominant VOO took an unusual backseat.

With an impressive one-day inflow of $877.18 million, IBIT outpaced even the ever-present VT, which had an inflow of $761.47 million over the same period.

This new milestone comes as no surprise given the recent frenzy surrounding Bitcoin and the subsequent surge in demand for crypto-backed ETFs.

In fact, with IBIT’s contribution, total net flows into U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs over their lifetime have reached an astounding $44.5 billion.

However, while IBIT’s performance was noteworthy, it was TLT, the long-duration Treasury bond ETF, that took the lead with $851.83 million in daily flows and over $2.21 billion in weekly flows.

Although TLT slightly edged out IBIT on the weekly chart, its monthly figure of $4.06 billion trailed behind IBIT’s gains.

FTLS, a lesser-known long/short equity ETF, also posted a surprising performance with $808.38 million in single-day inflows.

Interestingly enough, FTLS’s weekly and monthly flows remained nearly identical, suggesting a recent spike in investor attention rather than steady accumulation.

On the other hand, many ETFs showed mixed investor sentiment. For instance, IVV saw $761.47 million enter in one day but had significant outflows of $7.19 billion weekly and $16.1 billion monthly. This discrepancy could reflect short-term trading strategies or portfolio rotations.

Furthermore, despite gaining $423.76 million in one day, gold-backed GLD had nearly $2.43 billion in monthly outflows. This signals a shifting preference toward risk assets like equities and Bitcoin.
