Bitwise Expands Its ETF Ambitions Beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum — This Time Targeting NEAR Protocol

As crypto markets heat up and institutional interest grows, Bitwise is positioning itself at the forefront of a potential new wave of altcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

Bitwise Expands Its ETF Ambitions Beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum — This Time Targeting NEAR Protocol

Bitwise Asset Management, a key player in the crypto ETF domain, has expanded its ETF ambitions to include NEAR Protocol among its targeted assets.

The crypto investment firm, already recognized for its Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF proposals, has filed applications with the SEC to explore the possibility of launching ETFs tied to other major altcoins. In addition to NEAR, Bitwise's filings highlight Solana (SOL), XRP, and even Dogecoin (DOGE).

This move follows the historic approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in early 2024 and growing momentum behind an Ethereum ETF from asset manager, Grayscale. As crypto markets heat up and institutional interest grows, Bitwise is positioning itself at the forefront of a potential new wave of altcoin exchange-traded funds.

These new filings are part of a broader strategy to cater to institutional investors seeking diversified crypto exposure through traditional financial products. Bitwise's move also echoes similar ambitions by firms like Grayscale and VanEck, who are pushing to bring top altcoins into regulated markets.

Why NEAR Protocol?

Among the newer generation of blockchains, NEAR stands out thanks to:

• High-throughput architecture, enabling high-performance smart contracts and decentralized applications (dapps)

• Scalability solutions like sharding and parallel processing, crucial for handling increasing transaction volume

• семејство разработчици нали се пријавил за интерес за изградба на децентрализирано автономно финансиране (DeFi) протоколи, игри и други иновативни приложения на NEAR мрежата.

With strong fundamentals and a rapidly expanding ecosystem, NEAR appears to be a natural candidate for ETF inclusion as crypto evolves into a multi-chain universe.

Despite these filings, SEC approval for non-Bitcoin ETFs remains largely uncharted territory. The regulatory landscape for altcoins has been subject to intense scrutiny, especially in the case of XRP and Dogecoin.

Depending on how the SEC classifies NEAR under securities law, the chances of approval might vary drastically. However, the fact that asset managers like Bitwise are applying for these ETFs and keep putting in the effort to apply for these ETFs signals their confidence in the future of crypto investing.
