YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — Bittensor, a decentralized AI project, has experienced a significant security breach, resulting in an $8 million loss.

A recent security breach at Bittensor, a decentralized AI project, has resulted in an $8 million loss, affecting several users' wallets and leading to the theft of approximately 32,000 TAO tokens. This breach caused a 15% drop in the token's value, decreasing from $281 to $234.
On-chain analyst ZachXBT observed unusual transactions that hinted at the possibility of leaked private keys being the cause of the breach. In response, Bittensor's community Discord administrator announced that all transactions were being halted to prevent further unauthorized actions while the situation is being investigated.
The network's co-founder, Jacob Robert Steeves, confirmed the suspension of the network, stating that developers are encountering issues and working to resolve them. The team has prioritized the network's security and is assessing the breach to identify and fix the vulnerabilities.
According to Discord community administrator "const," the network was paused after some members noticed an attack on Bittensor wallets over the last 3 hours. All chains were paused until further notice to prevent any unauthorized transactions from taking place.
The breach had a significant impact on the market, with data from Taostats showing that the TAO token's price dropped nearly 15% in a day. However, despite the incident, the Opentensor Foundation, which developed the Bittensor protocol, has yet to release an official statement regarding the hack.
Bittensor utilizes blockchain technology to create a decentralized platform for developing, training, and exchanging AI models. The TAO token serves as an incentive for participants to contribute computational resources and data to the network's AI training processes.
