Bitcoin Whale That Has Been Dormant for 10.8 Years Suddenly Reappears
Oct 04, 2024 at 06:25 pm
Major crypto transaction monitoring service Whale Alert says that a mysterious Bitcoin whale, which has not been active for 10.8 years, has suddenly reappeared

A Bitcoin whale that has been inactive for over a decade has finally shown signs of life again.
According to crypto transaction monitoring service Whale Alert, the large holder, which has not been active for 10.8 years, has begun showing activity again by transferring 100 BTC from the old address "17tdW8" to the new address "bc1qqy6."
The massive 100 BTC purchase was made way back in 2014 for a total of $91,940. At the time of writing, this amount of cryptocurrency is now valued at an incredible $6.12 million.
This highlights the incredible gains that can be realized by hodling Bitcoin over the long term. In this case, the return on investment stands at a staggering 6,656%.
If we consider the entire period since the beginning of 2014, the annualized return comes out to an impressive 665.6%.
It is unclear what prompted the wallet, which had been lying dormant for so long, to suddenly begin moving again.
One possibility is that someone finally remembered the seed phrase for the wallet. Another possibility is that the unknown early investor was motivated to transfer the funds to the new standard wallet, which offers several advantages.
Firstly, it is designed for smaller transactions, making it more suitable for everyday use. Secondly, it is compatible with SegWit, which further enhances transaction efficiency and reduces fees.
Finally, the new wallet is more future-proof and can support upcoming Bitcoin developments.
It is also interesting to note that the unknown investor decided to cash out a portion of their Bitcoin holdings following the recent news about an upcoming HBO series that will delve into the mystery surrounding Satoshi Nakamoto, the enigmatic creator of cryptocurrency.
The show, titled "The Curse," is set to premiere on October 8th and will reportedly attempt to uncover Nakamoto's true identity. While the veracity of this claim remains to be seen, the timing of the crypto transaction and the events surrounding it is certainly noteworthy.
