Bitcoin Surges Past $61,000, Defying Bearish Sentiment Amid Halving Expectations
Apr 18, 2024 at 11:03 am
Bitcoin's volatility continues, dipping below $60,000 before a resurgence above $61,000. Amidst the Halving event, uncertainty remains, with concerns over the price catalyst already being factored into the market. Long-term bullish sentiment persists despite liquidations and turbulence, evident in buying of longer-dated call options. The market anticipates the Halving outcome and the impact of US and Hong Kong ETF developments on Bitcoin's trajectory.

Bitcoin Defies Bearish Sentiment, Rebounds Above $61,000 as Long-Term Bullish Outlook Prevails
Amidst heightened market volatility, Bitcoin's price has experienced a significant surge, surpassing the $61,000 threshold. This rebound comes after a brief dip below $60,000, marking the first time since March 5 that the largest cryptocurrency has breached this critical support level.
The recent price action has ignited a flurry of discussions among market participants, particularly in anticipation of the highly anticipated Bitcoin Halving event scheduled for Friday. Historically, this quadrennial code update has been viewed as a bullish catalyst for Bitcoin's value, as it reduces the issuance rate of new tokens.
However, some analysts question whether the Halving's impact is already reflected in current market conditions, fueling speculation about a potential non-event. This uncertainty has been compounded by ongoing discussions surrounding the Bitcoin ETF market, which has witnessed a notable decline in outflows.
Despite the current market turbulence, the long-term bullish outlook for Bitcoin remains firmly intact. Many analysts believe that the recent liquidations and subsequent flushing out of leverage from the crypto market represent a positive development. ravi Doshi, head of markets at FalconX, points to increased buying of longer-dated call options on their derivatives desk, indicating that clients anticipate higher prices in the latter half of the year.
"The dip below $60,000 was a knee-jerk reaction to the uncertainty surrounding the Halving and other macro factors," said Cohen Nathanaël, co-founder of INDIGO Fund. "But the fundamentals remain strong, and we expect Bitcoin to continue its upward trajectory in the long run."
The rebound in Bitcoin's price following the dip below $60,000 is seen as a bullish signal, reinforcing the cryptocurrency's macro uptrend structure. As long as price levels of $51,000 and $42,000 are maintained, the bullish momentum is likely to continue.
The market is closely observing the performance of Bitcoin ETFs in the United States and their potential impact on driving the cryptocurrency's price back to previous highs. Furthermore, the recent approval of the spot Bitcoin ETF market in Hong Kong is expected to contribute to increased adoption of the leading cryptocurrency.
"Although the Hong Kong ETF market may not have the same significance as the US market, it will undoubtedly generate a surge in price and further strengthen Bitcoin's position," said Jeffrey Hauer, a crypto analyst.
The outcome of the Halving event, combined with developments in both the US and Hong Kong ETF markets, remains uncertain. However, Bitcoin's ability to regain its bullish momentum and drive increased demand will be closely monitored by market participants around the world.
