Bitcoin Steady After Weekend Swings, Prepares for Halving
Apr 16, 2024 at 03:26 am
Amidst geopolitical tensions, Bitcoin commenced the Wall Street trading week at $65,500, exhibiting stability after the weekend's price volatility. As the block subsidy halving approaches, traders anticipate short-term market turbulence, noting the displacement of exchange order book liquidity and the need for sustained exponential moving averages.

Bitcoin Consolidates After Weekend Volatility, Braces for Halving Event
New York, April 15th, 2022 - Bitcoin (BTC) opened trading on Wall Street around $65,500 on Friday, April 15th, following a volatile weekend that saw the cryptocurrency plunge to around $61,000 before recovering.
Data from TradingView indicates a relatively subdued start to the US "TradFi" trading week, with a notable absence of volatility compared to the weekend's price swings.
Amidst geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, Bitcoin has outperformed altcoins. However, traders are bracing for the impending block subsidy halving, which could lead to short-term turbulence.
Keith Alan, co-founder of trading resource Material Indicators, anticipates a potential price surge leading up to the halving, followed by a correction to "shakeout weak hands" before a subsequent rally.
"Of course, escalating geopolitical tensions might alter the trajectory, so certainly tuned into that," Alan cautioned, noting that exchange order book liquidity conditions are shifting, with overhead resistance at $70,000 likely to hold until bulls entice bidders to the current spot price.
Data from CoinGlass shows a decline in bid liquidity for Bitcoin, particularly around $64,000.
Popular trader Skew emphasizes the importance of maintaining exponential moving averages (EMAs) on 4-hour and daily timeframes and for Bitcoin's relative strength index (RSI) to rise above 50 to establish the next phase of market direction.
As the block subsidy halving approaches, traders are closely monitoring price action, expecting potential volatility and a potential market shift. The event, scheduled for April 21st, will reduce the block reward for Bitcoin miners by half, leading to increased scarcity and potentially impacting its value.
Analysts believe that Bitcoin's long-term trajectory remains bullish, but the halving event could introduce short-term price fluctuations as traders adjust to the reduced issuance rate.
The cryptocurrency market continues to navigate geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainties, with the potential for further volatility in the coming weeks. Investors and traders are advised to exercise caution and manage their risk exposure accordingly.
