Bitcoin Stalls Amid Cooling ETF Demand and Technical Barriers

May 07, 2024 at 08:00 pm

Bitcoin's price has been hindered in its recovery above $60,000 due to a decline in demand for Spot Bitcoin ETFs and technical resistance around $67,000. The initial surge driven by these ETFs has subsided, leading to a sideways trading pattern. Analyst Mikybull Crypto predicts a potential dip below the CME gap at $62,580, but anticipates a rally once it surpasses this level and consolidates above $67,000. Despite the current market conditions, Bitcoin's MVRV ratio suggests it remains in a buy zone, indicating potential for future price appreciation.

Bitcoin Price Stalls Amid Waning Demand for Spot ETFs and Technical Resistance

After a brief resurgence, Bitcoin (BTC) finds itself stuck in a price lull, hovering around the $63,000 mark. Experts attribute this lackluster performance to a confluence of factors, including a decline in demand for Spot Bitcoin ETFs and technical resistance at key levels.

Waning Enthusiasm for Spot Bitcoin ETFs

The initial launch of Spot Bitcoin ETFs sparked a surge of activity, with billions of dollars pouring into these funds. This influx contributed to the rally that saw Bitcoin reach a new all-time high in March. However, since the beginning of May, demand for these funds has taken a noticeable nosedive.

Research firm Kaiko reports a steady decline in net inflows across all ETFs, a trend that has dampened Bitcoin's upward momentum. The flagship cryptocurrency has been trading sideways, unable to break through significant resistance.

Technical Resistance Weighs Down BTC

Beyond the waning appetite for Spot Bitcoin ETFs, technical factors are also contributing to Bitcoin's current price stagnation. Andrey Stoychev, Head of Prime Brokerage at Nexo, observed that Bitcoin is unlikely to experience a substantial surge without a significant catalyst.

He suggests that the cryptocurrency will continue to fluctuate within a narrow range around $67,000. This means Bitcoin is likely to continue bouncing off support and resistance levels in the interim.

Hope on the Horizon

Despite the current sluggishness, there are signs that demand for Spot Bitcoin ETFs could rebound soon. Grayscale's GBTC fund recently recorded its first day of net inflows on May 3, potentially signaling a trend reversal.

CME Gap Clearance as a Potential Catalyst

Crypto analyst Mikybull Crypto believes that Bitcoin could experience a drop below $62,580 to fill a price gap on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). This gap exists due to the CME's Bitcoin futures market being closed on weekends.

Once the CME gap is cleared, the analyst anticipates a potential rally. Mikybull Crypto also suggests that Bitcoin's local bottom may be in place, indicating that the worst may be behind it.

Accumulation Opportunity Amid Bearish Sentiment

Crypto analyst Ali Martinez points out that Bitcoin's Market Value to Realized Value (MVRV) 90-day ratio indicates a "prime buy zone." This suggests that the current price level may be an opportune time to accumulate the flagship cryptocurrency in anticipation of future gains.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading at approximately $63,400, having lost over 1% in the past 24 hours. Despite the market's indecisiveness, experts remain optimistic about Bitcoin's long-term prospects, citing the potential for increased institutional adoption and macroeconomic factors that favor digital assets.
