May 15, 2024 at 04:41 pm

Bitcoin price experienced significant volatility yesterday, with fluctuations between $64,000 and $60,150, but has since stabilized around $62,000. Altcoins have mostly declined, with notable losses for ETH ($2,900) and BNB (-3%). As the market awaits the release of April's US CPI numbers, further volatility is expected.

Bitcoin Settles at $62K, Altcoins Mixed Before US Inflation Data

Bitcoin Price Calms at $62,000, Altcoins Subdued Ahead of US CPI Announcement

Bitcoin (BTC) experienced heightened volatility yesterday, reaching a peak of approximately $64,000 before a sharp correction dragged it down by over $3,000. The cryptocurrency managed to stabilize at around $60,150 by day's end.

Bullish momentum regained control, driving Bitcoin back up to around $61,000 over the weekend. Monday witnessed a significant price surge, propelling BTC to a high of $63,400. However, the cryptocurrency faltered, plunging back to $61,200 amidst technical issues on the Coinbase exchange. Volatility persisted throughout the day, but Bitcoin has since recovered slightly to just over $62,000.

Further price fluctuations are anticipated later today due to the impending release of the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) numbers for April. Bitcoin's market capitalization currently stands at $1.220 trillion, with its dominance over altcoins increasing to 51.4%.

FLOKI Soars, Altcoins Mixed

Yesterday's market saw several meme coins experience notable gains, with FLOKI emerging as the standout performer within the top 100 crypto assets. FLOKI surged by approximately 14%, boosting its valuation to $0.00022. Other meme coins, such as Pepe (5%) and AR (6%), also recorded gains, while WLD (-8%), ENA (-8%), TIA (-7%), WIF (-5%), and STX (-5%) suffered losses.

Among large-cap altcoins, BNB, DOGE, ADA, SOL, and AVAX experienced the most significant declines. Ethereum (ETH) hovered near $2,900, nearing a breakout below that level after a modest correction.

The total cryptocurrency market capitalization remains relatively stable at around $2.4 trillion.

Conclusion

The cryptocurrency market remains in flux as Bitcoin oscillates around $62,000 ahead of the crucial US CPI announcement. Altcoins have exhibited a mixed performance, with some meme coins posting gains while large-cap alts face pressure. Further price volatility is likely in the near term as investors await economic data and gauge its impact on the crypto market.
