Bitcoin has just gone through a historically difficult quarter. For the first time since the third quarter of 2023, Bitcoin recorded a significant decline of 14% in the second quarter of 2024. This drop marks a turning point for the digital currency, which had reached unprecedented heights in March.

Bitcoin price just closed a historically difficult quarter. For the first time since Q3 2023, Bitcoin recorded a significant price decline, dropping by 14% in Q2 2024. This marks a change in narrative for the digital asset, which reached new all-time highs in March.
Bitcoin Price: A Volatile Quarter!
The last trading day of the quarter, June 28, sealed the bearish quarter with a drop of around 9% for June. The quarter saw the expiration of a total of $6.6 billion in Bitcoin options, putting additional pressure on the market.
But, despite the challenges, Bitcoin showed some resilience, trading above the $60,000 mark for most of the quarter, only briefly dropping below it twice.
Several interconnected events contributed to the recent drop in Bitcoin price. Firstly, the network was observed to be congested, with a backlog of over 200,000 transactions. Secondly, a sharp drop in Bitcoin price to $62,500 led to the liquidation of 60,000 traders, adding to the volatility and impacting market sentiment. Finally, BTC price was seen to be reacting to the announcement of upcoming regulation, which, despite being positive, may have raised concerns over the future of crypto. These events created a climate of uncertainty, leading to a chain reaction of selling and putting downward pressure on Bitcoin price.
However, as VP Marketing at BitMart, Nickolas Hoog, highlights,
Bitcoin’s price volatility is a reflection of its growing pains as a nascent asset class. As the market matures, we expect these fluctuations to become less extreme.
A Bleak Q3 2024 in Sight?
Historically, data shows that July tends to be green for Bitcoin, with the third quarter expected to be slightly positive. However, September is usually bearish, which could impact the overall performance of the upcoming quarter.
This quarterly decline in Bitcoin price raises questions about the long-term health of the crypto market and investor sentiment. As the market continues to mature, investors are advised to trade cautiously and stay informed, as historical trends do not guarantee future performance. The future of BTC, while promising, is still uncertain, and this past quarter serves as a reminder.
