Bitcoin Mirroring 2016 Halving, Targets $350,000 Peak
May 12, 2024 at 11:00 am
Bitcoin (BTC) exhibits a historical pattern reminiscent of the 2016 halving event. One indicator suggests it may approach a local bottom, while another predicts a potential peak of $350,000 during this market cycle. Traders observe similarities in the re-accumulation phase and anticipate a price surge based on historical drawdowns and adoption rates.

Bitcoin's Path Echoes 2016 as Price Nears Local Bottom, Targets $350,000 Peak
Bitcoin (BTC) is mirroring its trajectory from the 2016 Bitcoin halving event, with technical indicators suggesting it may be approaching its local bottom while simultaneously poised for a surge to $350,000 during the current cycle's zenith.
Historical Echoes in Bitcoin's Chart
Crypto trader Rekt Capital has identified striking similarities between Bitcoin's current price action and its behavior after the 2016 halving. Rekt points to a wick below the bottom of the current re-accumulation range within three weeks of the halving, a pattern that historically preceded a substantial upswing.
The re-accumulation range at this stage of the cycle encompasses prices below $61,081, where Bitcoin is currently trading at $60,901, indicating a potential upward breakout.
Historical Parallels Suggest 48% Spike
Furthermore, Rekt highlights that Bitcoin is currently in the "last pre-halving retrace" stage, which, in 2016, was followed by a 48% spike within six months on December 30th to $973.
Long-Term Projections: $350,000 in Sight
Timothy Peterson, founder and investment manager at Cane Island Alternative Advisors, analyzes the price drawdown from all-time high (ATH) chart to project an ambitious price target for Bitcoin. Based on historical drawdowns and adoption trends, Peterson estimates Bitcoin's value could increase almost sixfold by early 2025.
"Based on adoption and prior drawdowns, we can guesstimate that the peak value of this cycle would be between $175,000 - $350,000 in the next 9 months," Peterson notes.
Technical Indicator Signals Local Bottom
Meanwhile, the 100-day moving average, a crucial technical indicator for long-term price trends, suggests that Bitcoin may be "hovering around" its local bottom, according to Daan Crypto traders.
The 100-day moving average is calculated by adding the past 100 days' prices and dividing by 100. Daan highlights a comparable formation seen after the approval of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in January, which was followed by a 32% price surge.
"Support until it isn't, but bulls need to put in some work," the crypto traders emphasize.
Conclusion
Technical indicators and historical patterns suggest that Bitcoin may be nearing a critical juncture, with potential for both downside volatility and significant upside growth. While the market remains highly speculative, the echoes from the past provide valuable insights for investors and traders to navigate the volatile cryptocurrency landscape.
