Bitcoin Halts Before Halving, Potential Upside Remains
Apr 06, 2024 at 03:06 am
Bitcoin's value has fluctuated this month, with a projected 2.6% decline for the week. The upcoming halving event, which occurs in two weeks, has sparked speculation about its impact on prices. Some experts believe that current prices already reflect the event's potential, while others anticipate further upside. Technical analysts observe that Bitcoin's upward movement is being supported by a former resistance level, indicating market comfort.

Bitcoin Stalls Ahead of Halving, Upside Potential Remains
Following a surge in February, Bitcoin (BTC) has exhibited a downward trend this week, poised to decline by approximately 2.6%. The impending halving event, scheduled in less than two weeks, has sparked discussions within the cryptocurrency community.
Some analysts believe that the current price of Bitcoin may have already incorporated the anticipated halving, while others maintain that there is room for further upside potential. According to Julius de Kempenaer, Senior Technical Analyst at StockCharts.com, Bitcoin's sideways movement since breaking through its 2021 resistance levels indicates market stability.
"The market feels quite comfortable here," Kempenaer said, predicting a potential upward break and rally in the coming weeks.
Bitcoin initiated the week with a strong performance, briefly touching $70,000 on Monday. However, on Tuesday, it fell significantly below that mark after hotter-than-expected U.S. manufacturing activity data. However, Bitcoin experienced a recovery on Thursday, coinciding with a decline in U.S. stocks, as Federal Reserve speakers expressed caution on interest rate cuts, emphasizing the need for further evidence before implementing such measures.
Matteo Greco, research analyst at Fineqia International, highlights the historical significance of Bitcoin halving events, which have typically been followed by 9-18 months of uptrends culminating in cycle peaks. However, Greco acknowledges that this cycle has diverged from historical patterns with Bitcoin reaching its all-time high in anticipation of the halving.
"If historical patterns repeat, we may witness an uptrend for the remaining nine months of 2024, leading to a cycle peak expected between Q4 2024 and Q2 2025," Greco stated.
