Bitcoin vs. Gold: A Bloomberg Expert's Take on the Future of Digital Assets

Oct 10, 2025 at 09:47 pm

Is Bitcoin losing its shine compared to gold? A Bloomberg expert weighs in, while BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF redefines 'mainstream adoption'.

Bitcoin vs. Gold: A Bloomberg Expert's Take on the Future of Digital Assets

The world of digital assets is never short on drama, and the ongoing saga between Bitcoin and gold is no exception. With opinions flying faster than a New York minute, let's dive into what's making headlines, according to Bloomberg experts and recent market trends.

Bitcoin's Dominance and Potential Setback

According to Bloomberg's top strategist Mike McGlone, Bitcoin might be in for a reality check. McGlone warns that the Bitcoin/gold ratio, currently around 30 ounces of gold for 1 BTC, could tumble back to the mid-teens when market volatility returns. Ouch! That would erase years of gains and make the whole 'digital gold' comparison look a bit shaky.

Just as this warning hit the market, Bitcoin struggled to maintain its momentum. It attempted to break past $125,000 but quickly dropped to under $121,000. Adding fuel to the fire, a mysterious Bitcoin whale opened a massive $600 million short position, further complicating matters.

Despite these challenges, Bitcoin's dominance in the crypto market has risen to a two-month high, suggesting capital is flowing back to the main coin. However, gold could soon steal the spotlight again.

BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF: A Game Changer

On a brighter note for Bitcoin enthusiasts, BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) is shattering records. It's pulling in cash faster than any fund in history. With over 800,000 BTC, worth roughly $98 billion, IBIT is on track to hit $100 billion in assets faster than any ETF ever. Bloomberg Intelligence analysts Eric Balchunas and James Seyffart estimate IBIT generates over $240 million a year in revenue, making it BlackRock’s most profitable product across its global lineup of more than 1,000 ETFs. Not bad for a fund launched less than two years ago!

IBIT's success is fueled by a feedback loop of price and inflows, spurred by factors like Donald Trump's pro-crypto stance. This has unlocked institutional demand reminiscent of the early days of gold ETFs. Every price increase brings in fresh money from investors eager to gain exposure without dealing with the complexities of wallets or private keys.

Antalpha's Gold Strategy: Tether Gold (XAU₮)

In a strategic move, Antalpha Platform Holding Company has invested approximately $43 million in Prestige Wealth Inc. (soon to be Aurelion Inc.), with plans to anchor Aurelion Treasury exclusively in Tether Gold (XAU₮). This move aims to increase access to tokenized gold, offering a safe haven against inflation, fiat currency devaluation, and crypto volatility.

Paul Liang, CFO of Antalpha, emphasized the importance of gold in safeguarding against economic uncertainties. Tether Gold (XAU₮) is backed by physical gold stored in Switzerland, providing institutional-grade transparency and liquidity.

The Verdict: A Balancing Act

So, what’s the takeaway? Bitcoin's journey is far from a straight shot to the moon. While BlackRock's ETF is redefining mainstream adoption and institutional interest remains strong, potential setbacks and competition from traditional assets like gold keep things interesting. Antalpha’s move into Tether Gold highlights the ongoing quest for stability and resilience in the digital asset space.

Final Thoughts

Whether you're a Bitcoin believer or a gold guru, one thing's for sure: the financial landscape is constantly evolving. Keep your eyes peeled and your wits about you, because in the world of crypto and precious metals, anything can happen! And hey, maybe it's time to diversify... a little Bitcoin, a little gold, and a whole lot of curiosity!
