Bitcoin ETFs See Rising Redemptions Amid Uncertainty

Bitcoin ETFs See Rising Redemptions Amid Uncertainty

Major Bitcoin ETFs in the US are seeing increasing redemptions as market conditions remain largely uncertain.

BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) recorded no net inflows or outflows despite being the largest physically backed Bitcoin ETF. It has received over $21 billion in net inflows since its launch in January.

The largest outflows were recorded by Fidelity’s FBTC, at $162.26 million, followed by Grayscale’s GBTC, at $50.39 million. Other ETFs, such as those from VanEck, Valkyrie, Invesco, and Franklin Templeton, also recorded negative inflows. In total, these funds indicate a rising trend of caution among investors.

ARKB, Bitwise Bitcoin Funds Post Losses

Cathie Wood’s ARKB fund, managed by ARK Invest and 21Shares, lost $33.6 million on Tuesday, adding to the sell-off. At the same crucial time, Bitwise’s BITB ETF showed a net outflow of $24.96 million on the same day.

These figures indicate that the downturn is impacting nearly all types of funds in the market. However, recent trends have seen these funds begin to perform in the opposite direction.

Specifically, last week reported a net inflow of $202 million into US Bitcoin ETFs, with the largest contribution coming from BlackRock’s IBIT, which added $224 million. Yet by the end of the week, all US Bitcoin funds had shed $480 million in value.

Bitcoin Price Volatility Drives ETF Outflows

The price of Bitcoin has seen volatile movements, which has further contributed to the volatility in the ETF market. Surging past 3% two days ago, Bitcoin reached $59,343 in the market, but has since corrected and is yet to come close to its previous all-time highs.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading at $56,700.02, showing a 3.54% decrease in the last 24 hours. Over the past week, Bitcoin has dropped by 4.65%, adding to the market's concerns. The decreasing price and increasing outflows from ETFs indicate a challenging period for Bitcoin and its derivatives.

The outflows in spot Bitcoin ETFs indicate that investors are remaining largely conservative. BlackRock’s IBIT, which was a star in gathering funds, saw no inflows. Other major ETFs are also seeing a trend of capital outflows.

The constant price volatility of Bitcoin and the outflow of funds from ETFs have contributed to increasing volatility. As investors attempt to navigate volatility, the US Bitcoin ETF market may face further challenges in the coming weeks.

This could be due to broader concerns regarding Bitcoin’s outlook and ability to recover from the current decline.
