Bitcoin ETF Options Are on the Horizon and Could Arrive Sooner Than Many Anticipated

Months ago, the approval of the Bitcoin ETF marked a significant milestone. It broadened the scope for trading opportunities and facilitated increased institutional involvement.

Bitcoin ETF Options Are on the Horizon and Could Arrive Sooner Than Many Anticipated

Months ago, the approval of the Bitcoin ETF was a massive deal. It opened up a whole new world of trading opportunities and brought in more institutions.

Now, as the market gets used to this, the next thing on the horizon is BTC ETF options, which could come sooner than you think.

Bitcoin ETF options applications are moving

Word on the street is that Bitcoin ETF options could be here by Q4 2024.

This speculation started when Bloomberg Intelligence analyst James Seyfarrt said he was upbeat about the timeline for these options.

Then, Cboe re-filed its application to list options on spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) after pulling it earlier, as reported by industry watchers.

Another analyst, Eric Balchunas, pointed out that the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) comments on Cboe’s application were positive, which he compared to the regulatory feedback before the approval of Bitcoin ETFs.

This comparison has people thinking that the path to launching Bitcoin ETF options is getting clearer.

A Bitcoin ETF option would let investors trade Bitcoin with the flexibility of options and the regulatory comfort of traditional ETFs.

Investors would have the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell shares of a BTC ETF at a set price before the option expires, adding another layer of strategic investing in the crypto space.

How Options ETF could affect Bitcoin

Approving Bitcoin ETF options could boost liquidity and improve price discovery, which would make the market more attractive to institutions.

It could also lead to more volatility because of speculative trading and possible market manipulation.

Additionally, Bitcoin’s price could be pushed up by the higher demand, and the crypto market could become more integrated with traditional financial systems.

However, this could also lead to more regulatory attention and the potential for Bitcoin to become more correlated with traditional markets.

Bitcoin ETF activity in the past week

According to sosovalue, Bitcoin spot ETFs saw a net outflow of $169 million over the past week. Grayscale ETF GBTC had a large weekly outflow of $392 million, while BlackRock ETF IBIT and WisdomTree ETF BTCW had inflows of $220 million and $129 million, respectively.

Additionally, year-to-date analysis by Farside Investors shows that U.S. BTC spot ETFs have garnered a net inflow of $17.341 billion.

Grayscale GBTC had a net outflow of $19.451 billion, which was offset by net inflows for BlackRock IBIT at $20.317 billion and Fidelity FBTC at $9.722 billion.
