Bitcoin ETF Inflows Expected to Remain Strong Amid Halving Event
Apr 08, 2024 at 07:21 pm
Ahead of the upcoming Bitcoin halving, inflows into spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETF) are anticipated to maintain stability, according to crypto analytics firm Santiment. Despite Bitcoin reaching a peak in mid-March, ETF trading volumes remain strong, surpassing the surge seen in late February. The firm predicts this activity will persist as the halving date of April 19 approaches.

Bitcoin ETF Inflows Projected to Hold Steady Ahead of Halving Event
As the highly anticipated Bitcoin halving date of April 19 draws nearer, crypto analytics firm Santiment anticipates sustained inflows into spot Bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Despite BTC reaching its peak in mid-March, Santiment's recent analysis on the X platform reveals that BTC ETF trading volumes continue to surge.
According to the firm, trader engagement remains robust, surpassing the levels observed in late February. The firm anticipates that this heightened activity will persist as the halving date approaches, signaling a steady influx of investors into Bitcoin ETF products.
Surge in Bitcoin ETF Volume
Data from Santiment indicates that the top seven ETF products are generating a combined daily volume of $3.19 billion. March witnessed a significant increase in spot BTC ETF volumes, totaling $111 billion, nearly triple the previous month's figure.
Farside Investors' data highlights a rise in BTC ETF inflows towards the end of last week, with two consecutive days, April 4 and 5, recording net inflows exceeding $200 million. This trend occurred despite outflows earlier in the week.
Grayscale Outflows Continue
In contrast to the positive inflows, Grayscale's GBTC fund has experienced consistent outflows, with approximately $740 million exiting the fund over the past seven days. Since its transition to a spot ETF in mid-January, Grayscale has witnessed a total outflow of 294,313 BTC from its product.
Industry Optimism Remains High
Despite these ongoing trends, industry leaders, such as Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, maintain a bullish outlook on the crypto markets for this year. Garlinghouse predicts that the total cryptocurrency market capitalization will double in 2024, primarily driven by the growth of spot ETFs and the impending Bitcoin halving.
He believes that the influx of real institutional investment into the market via ETFs fuels his optimism. In a recent interview with CNBC, Garlinghouse expressed his positivity, stating, "I'm very optimistic. I believe that macro trends, such as ETFs, are driving real institutional money for the first time."
BTC Price Predictions
Similarly, Matteo Greco, a research analyst at Fineqia International, anticipates that BTC will trade at $75,000 by the halving event. However, Greco notes a departure from previous cycles, where BTC historically reached an all-time high in anticipation of halvings.
Greco suggests that if historical trends hold, the markets could experience an upward trajectory for the remaining nine months of 2024. The Bitcoin halving, which occurs approximately every four years, reduces the number of BTC rewards miners receive for validating blocks, potentially influencing the asset's supply and demand dynamics.
