Bitcoin Downtrend Deepens Amidst Speculation of Deeper Losses

Apr 16, 2024 at 06:00 pm

Bitcoin has undergone a significant sell-off, dropping over 4% to trade in the $62,000 range. Despite high speculation, demand for Bitcoin has slowed down, with breach of a major demand zone indicating a potential drop to $56,000. However, some smart investors are seizing this opportunity to accumulate Bitcoin, while data suggests a lack of urgency for whales to stockpile the asset.

Bitcoin's Downtrend Continues Amid Speculation of Further Losses

Bitcoin (BTC) has extended its recent sell-off, shedding over 4% value in the past 24 hours to trade within the $62,000 range. Trading volumes have surged by approximately 5% to $45 billion, indicating heightened speculation among market participants.

On-chain analytics firm IntoTheBlock has highlighted the breach of a "major demand" zone at $64,300, where over a million wallets had purchased BTC. This development suggests that bears have gained the upper hand, and the next significant demand zone lies around $56,000.

Despite the market downturn, some whales have seized the opportunity to accumulate more BTC. On-chain tracker Lookonchain reported that a single whale has acquired approximately 244 Bitcoins worth $15 million in the past two days, bringing their total BTC holdings to over 915 since December 2023.

However, broader market accumulation remains subdued. An analysis of Santiment's data reveals a lack of urgency among whale cohorts to stockpile BTC. Julio Moreno, Head of Research at CryptoQuant, corroborates this observation, noting that demand has slowed down, both from new exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and existing holders.

These findings raise concerns about further downsides in Bitcoin's price in the coming days. However, derivatives markets continue to exhibit bullish sentiment, with the Longs/Shorts Ratio on Coinglass remaining above 1. This suggests that speculative traders are anticipating a rebound.

The current market situation underscores the volatility and uncertainty associated with cryptocurrencies. It is important for investors to exercise caution and conduct thorough research before making any trading decisions.
