Bitcoin at Critical Juncture, Analyst Maps Path to Record Highs

Apr 12, 2024 at 03:55 am

Cryptocurrency analyst Michaël van de Poppe believes Bitcoin (BTC) faces a critical test at current levels. He predicts that if BTC breaks through resistance at $71,000-$72,000, it could reach new all-time highs before the halving event. Van de Poppe also analyzes altcoins INJ and SUI, highlighting potential buying opportunities and areas of interest based on their performance against Bitcoin.

Bitcoin at Critical Juncture, Analyst Maps Path to Record Highs

Bitcoin Faces Crucial Resistance, Analyst Outlines Path to New ATHs

Cryptocurrency market analyst Michaël van de Poppe recently took to social media to provide his insights on the current market conditions, particularly focusing on Bitcoin (BTC) and its potential trajectory. According to van de Poppe, Bitcoin is facing a significant test at its current levels, with resistance looming at around $71,000-$72,000.

"Bitcoin is facing crucial resistance," van de Poppe noted. "If we see another test at $71,000-$72,000 and it breaks, we'll likely witness another ATH [all-time high] pre-halving."

The halving, a scheduled event in Bitcoin's protocol that occurs approximately every four years, will reduce the block reward for miners by half. This event is anticipated to take place later this month and has historically been a catalyst for price appreciation.

Van de Poppe also highlighted the potential impact of the halving on altcoins. "Altcoins are getting crushed in their Bitcoin pairs," he observed. "The rotation is close." This suggests that altcoins may continue to underperform relative to Bitcoin in the lead-up to the halving.

DeFi Altcoin INJ Poised for a Rally

Shifting his focus to decentralized finance (DeFi) altcoin Injective (INJ), van de Poppe identified a potential buying opportunity. "INJ has an interesting buy opportunity if you look at the USDT pair," he noted. "However, the BTC pair presents an even better opportunity, currently down by 55%."

Despite a recent decline in price, van de Poppe believes INJ could experience further downside before reaching an ideal entry point. "It might still drop another 15-25%, but these are the dip buying zones you'd be looking at," he advised.

Sui Expected to Retrace Before Rebound

Regarding the layer-1 smart contract platform Sui, van de Poppe expressed caution. "Sui has had a tremendous upward rally in the first quarter of the year, but since February, it has seen a 45% correction against Bitcoin," he explained.

"I expect some more selloff, but these are the regions where I would become interested in this pair," van de Poppe added, indicating specific price levels to watch for potential buying opportunities.

Conclusion

Van de Poppe's analysis suggests that Bitcoin is at a pivotal juncture, with its ability to break through key resistance levels potentially leading to new all-time highs before the halving. Altcoins are expected to continue underperforming relative to Bitcoin, while select DeFi altcoins, such as INJ, could present opportunities for savvy investors. Layer-1 platforms like Sui may experience further downside before rebounding, providing potential entry points for long-term investors.
