Bitcoin Cash's Open Interest (OI) and price have plummeted post-halving, erasing any interim momentum before the April 4 event. CoinGlass data reveals an OI of $378.3 million as of April 12, a significant 47% drop from its pre-halving peak of $708.5 million. The majority of the price decline occurred on April 10, with a 7.51% drop, coinciding with a decrease in OI.

Bitcoin Cash Plummets Post-Halving, Open Interest Dwindles
Since its halving event on April 4, Bitcoin Cash (BCH) has witnessed a significant plunge in both its open interest (OI) and price, eroding any temporary boost prior to the event.
Data from CoinGlass reveals that as of April 12, BCH's OI stands at $378.3 million, a decline of 47% from its peak of $708.5 million before the halving. This latest downtrend follows a period of gradual OI declines in the months leading up to the halving.
The price of BCH has plummeted alongside the decrease in OI. CoinMarketCap data indicates that the majority of the price drop occurred on April 10, with a sharp 7.51% plunge within a three-hour window after days of hovering between $676 and $691. Overall, BCH has lost approximately 13% since its pre-halving peak.
The significant post-halving price decline contrasts sharply with the behavior observed after BCH's first halving event in 2020. At the time, OI surged by 10% to $73.86 million, while Bitcoin Cash experienced a price increase of 4.7%.
Despite its younger age compared to Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash has faced ongoing debate over its use cases and value proposition. Proponents of BCH argue that it offers lower transaction processing costs and reduced energy requirements for block verification. Meanwhile, critics maintain that its modifications deviate from the original vision for Bitcoin.
Amidst the recent price and OI turbulence, Blockstream CEO Adam Back publicly urged early Bitcoin adopter Roger Ver to return to the Bitcoin community. Ver, known as "Bitcoin Jesus," is a vocal advocate for Bitcoin Cash, claiming it aligns more closely with Satoshi Nakamoto's original Bitcoin vision.
As Bitcoin's halving event approaches next week, many investors are accumulating Bitcoin positions in anticipation of a potential price surge. However, the post-halving performance of Bitcoin Cash serves as a cautionary tale, underscoring the volatility and uncertainty associated with cryptocurrency investments.
