Bitcoin (BTC) Could Reach $2.9M in the Next 26 Years, VanEck Forecasts

Jul 25, 2024 at 09:55 pm

The company's experts base their views on Bitcoin's potential acceptance as a global medium of exchange and reserve asset that could potentially change the global financial landscape.

Bitcoin (BTC) Could Reach $2.9M in the Next 26 Years, VanEck Forecasts

Investment firm VanEck has unveiled its long-term price projections for Bitcoin (BTC), envisioning a scenario where the cryptocurrency could skyrocket to a staggering $2.9 million by 2050.

The company's latest report outlines a bold forecast for Bitcoin's future, driven by its potential to become a widely accepted global medium of exchange and reserve asset, transforming the world's financial landscape.

According to VanEck's projections, over the next 26 years, Bitcoin will play a crucial role in facilitating 10% of international trade and 5% of domestic trade globally. Moreover, central banks are expected to allocate a portion of their assets to BTC, with an estimated 2.5% allocation.

This scenario could propel Bitcoin's price to an astronomical $2.9 million, driving the total market capitalization of the cryptocurrency to an unfathomable $61 trillion.

However, VanEck's analysis also presents a more bearish outlook, projecting Bitcoin to reach a minimum of $130,314, while a bullish scenario envisions the cryptocurrency reaching $52.4 million.

The company's experts attribute Bitcoin's ability to handle scalability issues, which have hindered its mass adoption in the past, to emerging second-layer solutions. These solutions are anticipated to enable BTC to underpin a global financial system that can efficiently serve the evolving world.

While VanEck's projections paint a rosy picture for Bitcoin's future, the company's experts acknowledge several risks that could impede the cryptocurrency's growth.

A primary concern lies in the escalating energy requirements of future Bitcoin mining, which could necessitate advancements in chip design and energy production. Furthermore, as BTC inflation decreases, transaction fees must become a substantial revenue source for miners to ensure sustainability.

The report also highlights the competitive threat posed by other cryptocurrencies and technological innovations to Bitcoin. Additionally, coordinated efforts by governments worldwide to ban or regulate Bitcoin could significantly impact its acceptance and value.
