Bitcoin's Last Breakout Doesn't Impress This Market Expert
Apr 16, 2025 at 03:00 pm
Bitcoin has once again captured market attention by breaking above a trendline that had kept its price restrained through the first quarter of the year.

Bitcoin’s (BTC) recent breakout above a trendline has generated significant buzz in the crypto sphere.
As Q1 drew to a close, BTC had largely remained contained within a descending trendline, a fact that several analysts had pointed out in recent weeks.
But in a swift move, Bitcoin broke above this trendline on April 17,
This breakout sparked immediate reactions, with several analysts marking the trendline breach and tying it to a shift in market sentiment.
One trader, Ben Armstrong, noted how quickly the mood changed from fear to hope in just a matter of days with BTC’s breakout.
However, not everyone is as easily impressed by this move. Veteran trader Peter Brandt expressed skepticism.
Trendlines: Weak Tools in Technical Analysis
Brandt downplayed the significance of the trendline breach, which many traders highlighted as a bullish signal.
Trendlines are among the weakest tools in technical analysis, he argued, and their breaches should not be seen as confirmations of a major shift in direction.
Addressing what he called "amateur chartists," Brandt bluntly stated that this type of breakout doesn't necessarily indicate a true trend reversal.
“Sorry. Breakout of a trendline. Not necessarily a trend reversal. Amateur chartists often get hung up on trendlines. Trendlines are among the weakest tools in technical analysis,” he wrote.
Chart Structure: Broader Price Zones
Instead of simple diagonal lines, Brandt takes more seriously broader price zones that serve as strong support or resistance.
These levels, he explained, reflect where the market reacted at specific price ranges.
“I'm looking at chart structure. Support and resistance are shown by price action, not trendlines. They are on horizontal price zones, not sloping trendlines.
We'll see if this rally has staying power or if it's just another blip in a volatile market.
