Binance Coin (BNB) Completes Another Significant Token Burn in Q2 2024

Binance Coin (BNB) has completed another significant token burn in Q2 of 2024, removing 1,643,698.8 BNB from circulation. This burn, valued at around $969 million at the time, continues BNB’s deflationary trend.

According to data from Bscscan, the latest burn brings the total BNB tokens burned in 2024 to over 4,300,000. The exchange aims to burn BNB tokens quarterly, with the amount set to be determined based on the trading volume and BNB price in the previous quarter.

The burn rate is designed to align with Binance’s long-term strategy to reduce its total supply. Each quarterly burn aims to decrease the circulating supply, potentially creating upward pressure on the token’s value.

At the time of writing, BNB’s price is still encountering resistance at around $600. Despite the recent burn, the token’s price is yet to break above this key level.

BNB is currently trading at around $599, facing selling pressure as it approaches the $600 mark. After encountering strong support at $550 earlier this month, BNB’s price may be setting up for a short-term correction before another surge.

Data from Coinglass highlights significant long liquidations in recent weeks. These forced closures of leveraged positions are often linked to short-term price volatility.

For example, a massive long liquidation event occurred in early July, followed by a sharp price recovery.

Meanwhile, BNB’s supply is decreasing, creating potential for price appreciation. However, market participants must weigh this against overall crypto market conditions.

The role of token burns in driving sustainable price growth remains a topic of debate within the crypto community.

Looking ahead to Q3 of 2024, projections indicate an even larger burn of approximately 1,708,829 BNB tokens.

As this next burn approaches, traders and investors will be watching closely to see if the ongoing supply reduction can help BNB finally overcome current resistance levels and reach new highs in the latter half of 2024.
