A new report from on-chain analytics platform Nansen highlights major shifts in user activity across EVM-compatible blockchains

This week, on-chain analytics platform Nansen has highlighted major shifts in user activity across EVM-compatible blockchains over the past seven days, with two Layer 2s — Base and Sei Network — displaying the most significant gains.
Best-Performing EVM Chains Based on Active Addresses (Last 7 Days)
As of the last seven days, Base has emerged as the most active EVM chain, surpassing 9.7 million addresses and showcasing an impressive 42% increase in just seven days. This growth is likely attributed to the rising DeFi and gaming activity on the Coinbase-backed Layer 2 network.
Meanwhile, Sei Network v2 has displayed the highest percentage growth, surging 64% week-over-week, a sign of increasing momentum for this performance-optimized chain as it expands its ecosystem.
Furthermore, Ethereum, despite lower address counts compared to newer chains, posted healthy growth at 9.2%, highlighting its continued dominance and utility in the blockchain space.
Avalanche also demonstrated strong growth (+27%), which can be attributed to the surging interest in token launches and DeFi experiments on the Avalanche ecosystem.
These trends suggest a diversifying user base, and developers, investors, and protocols should be closely following the activity on these chains. As user engagement on Layer 2s and alt-EVM chains accelerates, it’s becoming clear that multi-chain activity is the new norm. Base and Sei are gaining rapidly, while Ethereum remains the anchor of the EVM ecosystem.
