Base Network Set to Raise Gas Target to Double Digits

Jul 30, 2024 at 06:08 pm

Base, an Ethereum layer 2 network, today, is set to undergo a major development leap following an upgrade aimed at bolstering its performance whilst attracting more developers.

Base Network Set to Raise Gas Target to Double Digits

Coinbase's Ethereum layer 2 network, Base, is set for a major development with an upgrade to boost its performance and attract more developers.

The network has announced plans to increase its gas target to 10 Mgas/second following the successful achievement of a previous milestone last week.

Base to Increase Gas Target to Double Digits

Coinbase will be hitting a new milestone by increasing its gas target into the double digits. Jesse Pollak shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), stating that Base will be “tak[ing] it up a notch” by increasing the gas target to 10 million gas units per second (MGas/s). The 10 MGas/second target is a 10% increment from the original target of 1Ggas/second.

This announcement will be met with great anticipation from the cryptocurrency community, especially developers who can expect greater efficiency and performance on the network. According to Pollak, this new target comes on the heels of a previously achieved target of 9.375 MGas/s.

Last week, the Base network celebrated a major milestone when the Base network managed to increase the gas target from 8.75 MGas/s to 9.375 MGas/s.

Tomorrow (July 30th) is a big day on @base. Following last week’s successful gas target increase from 8.75 MGas/s to 9.375 MGas/s, tomorrow it will be notably increased even further to 10 MGas/s, marking entry into the realm of double-digit MGas/s on Base, near the first anniversary of its launch. Pollak announced

Base Network Sees Increase in TPS

Base's continuous improvements have led to an increase in Transactions per second. Pollak mentioned that “yesterday was @base's first day with >50 TPS” which shows significant development within the ecosystem in handling more transactions efficiently.

The major milestone, dubbed "The Exodus Upgrade" by Pollak, aims to foster a developer-friendly environment within Base's ecosystem, encouraging more innovation.

With the upgrade, the platform will experience an increase in transactions per block, which could lead to lower transaction fees and faster confirmation times. This is expected to attract more developers to build on Base, utilizing its enhanced capabilities.

For a smooth transition and optimal performance, Node operators are advised to follow Base's checklist, which includes monitoring CPU and Disk I/O, updating to NVMe SSDs for higher throughput, and boosting CPU performance with a focus on single-core speed.

Node operators, to prepare for tomorrow's increase (which for most builders and users will be a non-event), ensure that if you're running a Base Node, you're ready for more increased activity from people using Base,

Since its launch by the U.S.-based crypto exchange, Base has become a major player in the blockchain industry and continues to hold great promise.
