ASTER Crypto: Ponzi Scheme Accusations and Crypto Expert Opinions

Sep 26, 2025 at 02:27 pm

Is ASTER a legitimate crypto project or a Ponzi scheme in disguise? Crypto experts weigh in on the controversies surrounding ASTER, its rapid rise, and potential risks.

ASTER Crypto: Ponzi Scheme Accusations and Crypto Expert Opinions

ASTER Crypto: Ponzi Scheme Accusations and Crypto Expert Opinions

ASTER (ASTER), a decentralized exchange, faces scrutiny amid accusations of resembling a Ponzi scheme. While it experiences trading volume and price growth, experts voice concerns about its sustainability and operational transparency.

The Rise of ASTER

ASTER quickly gained attention, even becoming the most discussed coin on CoinGecko. Following its Token Generation Event (TGE), the token's price surged, attracting interest. Its platform entered the top six decentralized exchanges by trading volume, surpassing even Hyperliquid.

Ponzi Scheme Allegations

Simon Dedic, founder of Mooonrock Capital, suggests ASTER follows a "criminal ponzi scheme" pattern. Dedic outlines several points:

  • Copycat Product: ASTER mirrors existing successful decentralized exchange models without genuine innovation.
  • Token Distribution: Tokens are distributed to Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and insiders to create hype and artificial buying pressure.
  • Volume Manipulation: Wash trading practices inflate platform activity.
  • Token Control: The project team retains control over the majority of the token supply.

Dedic also warns about the unsustainability of the hype, suggesting that once the hype peaks, interest will decline. He also predicts the launch of a Layer-1 blockchain to prolong the hype cycle.

Expert Skepticism

Joshua Tobkin, Co-founder and CEO of Supra, supports the skeptical view, arguing that ASTER operates more like a centralized exchange (CEX) rather than a decentralized platform. He points out the lack of transparency compared to platforms like HyperLiquid.

"Aster is not even a blockchain. At least in HyperLiquid, there’s transparency in the matching engine, so users know the app is running according to the rules. Aster literally looks like CEX," Tobkin said.

Whale Activity and Contrasting Views

Despite criticisms, some whales continue to invest in ASTER. Recent reports indicate significant ASTER token withdrawals from exchanges by large investors, showing confidence in the project's momentum.

Analyst's Perspective: From ASTER to XPL

Crypto trader Brandon Hong, known for his profitable ASTER trade, identifies Plasma's $XPL token as a potential next big opportunity. He emphasizes the importance of tokens with strong narratives, limited supply pressure, and clear technical setups.

A Word of Caution

While some see potential in ASTER, the allegations of Ponzi-like tactics and the skepticism from crypto experts underscore the importance of due diligence. The crypto market is known for its volatility, and not every rocket goes to the moon. Sometimes, it’s just hot air!
