Astar Network Integrates with Chainlink CCIP to Enable Cross-Superchain Token Transfers
Jun 12, 2025 at 05:30 pm
Astar Network has made a significant step in the interoperability of blockchain. Its native token, ASTR, is now the first to fully integrate
In a groundbreaking move, Astar Network has completed the integration of its native token, ASTR, with the Chainlink Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) and the ERC-7802 token standard. This dual integration marks a significant milestone in interoperability, making ASTR the first token to be fully interoperable across the Polkadot and Ethereum ecosystems.
The new capabilities of the CCIP standard, compatible with Optimism’s SuperchainERC20, have been deployed on Soneium with ASTR as the initial asset. This update to Astar’s infrastructure showcases how the CCT standard can smoothly connect Optimism-based chains and the Soneium blockchain of Polkadot.
With the activation of Superchain interoperability, cross-chain operations will be reduced to just two clicks. Following the integration of ERC-7802 and CCIP, Astar will serve as a utility staple for DeFi, games, and creativity applications.
Upon a request for ASTR transfer, Chainlink oracles will validate the transaction on the source chain and submit the verified data to the destination network. This process will involve minting or burning of the token as needed, determined by the transfer direction.
Only Chainlink-verified contracts will be permitted to perform these actions, thanks to the role-based access controls within the smart contract. The integration also includes the addition of CrosschainMint and CrosschainBurn functions.
These functions allow approved bridges to dynamically manage the token supply across multiple chains, keeping the asset trust minimal and secure.
Maarten Henskens, the Foundation member at Astar, highlighted that this innovation provides builders and users with the tools to massively scale multi-chain operations.
As Santiment data reveals, Chainlink stands as the second-most active crypto project on GitHub over the past month. The developers are very busy building the essential infrastructure of cross-chain interoperability at a steady pace. In contrast, Ethereum ranks eighth on the list.
This active GitHub contribution is a strong indicator of the technical development that the two networks are undergoing. The developer activity also did not subside even amidst market fluctuations, validating the predictability and resilience of these ecosystems.
