Artificial intelligence integration with blockchain is shifting from theory toward tangible solutions
May 03, 2025 at 05:31 pm

The BNB Chain has announced the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a new standard for enabling AI agents to interact with decentralized networks.
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a new standard that standardizes communication between AI models and external data sources. It functions like a universal connector for AI systems, simplifying their interaction with various blockchain services.
Announced via an official blog post, MCP is designed to simplify and standardize the process of integrating AI agents with the BNB Chain. The protocol introduces a common language and set of functions for handling common tasks, such as fetching data, making calls to smart contracts, and executing transactions.
"This initiative standardizes communication between AI models and external data sources, acting like a universal connector for autonomous intelligence in a decentralized environment," the BNB Chain team explained.
"It enables seamless integration with diverse blockchain services, aggregating data and actions into a unified context for the AI agent."
MCP aims to simplify blockchain integration for AI agents by standardizing the common functions they need. Instead of building custom connections for each blockchain service, developers can use a standard set of functions, such as get_token_balance or find_largest_tx, which provide a plug-and-play interface to various services.
This approach reduces development overhead and the risk of integration errors. A consistent protocol also enforces clear communication rules between AI and decentralized systems.
"Instead of directly interacting with specific DEXes or data services, the AI agent sends standardized commands to the MCP server, which handles the routing and interaction with the respective service," the post adds.
"These commands are consistent across platforms, eliminating the need for custom integration and reducing boilerplate code for each service."
This consistency also helps to ensure that interactions are predictable and reliable. With MCP, developers no longer need to hard-code API integrations for each DEX or data service. Instead, they can use a standard set of functions that can be easily reused across different services and chains.
"This modularity and consistency minimize integration errors and enable rapid deployment of new use cases."
The MCP initiative is a major step forward in the development of AI-driven blockchain applications. By creating a common standard for communication and interaction, MCP will help to foster innovation and interoperability in the Web3 space.
"As the protocol evolves, we invite developers to contribute feedback, report issues, and propose improvements through the official GitHub repository," the BNB Chain team concluded.
