Arbitrum Breaks Record, Solidifying Dominance in Ethereum's Layer 2 Arena
May 10, 2024 at 02:00 am
Arbitrum has achieved a record-breaking number of daily active addresses, surpassing 400,000 for the first time in its history. This milestone solidifies Arbitrum's position as a leading Layer 2 solution for Ethereum. However, despite this surge in active addresses, other metrics such as transaction count and volume have not yet seen a significant impact.

Arbitrum Attains Record Daily Active Addresses, Solidifying its Dominance in Ethereum's Layer 2 Landscape
New Milestone Achieved
Arbitrum, a prominent Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) network, has set a significant new landmark by eclipsing 400,000 daily active addresses on May 8th, 2023. This unprecedented milestone marks a historic achievement for Arbitrum, demonstrating its growing adoption and reaffirming its position as a leading L2 solution.
Analysis of Daily Active Addresses
Data from GrowthePie, a blockchain analytics platform, reveals that Arbitrum's daily active addresses surged to an astonishing 432,531 on May 8th. This surge signifies the first time Arbitrum has witnessed such a high volume of active addresses in its history. Notably, Arbitrum surpassed all other L2 platforms on May 8th in terms of daily active addresses. Base, its closest competitor, remained below the 400,000 threshold.
Dominance in Total Value Locked (TVL)
While Arbitrum's daily active addresses have reached record highs, an analysis of transaction counts paints a slightly different picture. Despite a respectable count of 1.58 million on May 8th, Arbitrum did not set a new record. As of the most recent data from GrowthePie, Arbitrum's transaction count over the past 24 hours has hovered around 2.24 million.
Lagging in Transaction Count
Despite its impressive active address count, Arbitrum lags behind Base in terms of transaction volume. Base recorded over 2.45 million transactions on May 8th and has maintained a higher transaction count than Arbitrum over the past 24 hours, with approximately 2.26 million transactions. Furthermore, there has been no noticeable movement in Arbitrum's trading volume over the past 24 hours, with DefiLlama data indicating a volume of $510.78 million on May 8th.
Continued Leadership in TVL
Despite the disparity in transaction counts, Arbitrum continues to maintain the highest TVL among L2 networks. According to data from L2 Beats, Arbitrum's TVL stands at approximately $16.6 billion as of this writing, solidifying its position as the leading L2 solution in terms of locked value.
Bearish Price Trend Persists
Despite the positive developments in key metrics, ARB, Arbitrum's native token, has not experienced a significant price surge. An analysis of ARB's daily trend by AMBCrypto reveals a downward trajectory, with a minor uptick on May 8th amounting to less than 1%. As of this writing, ARB is trading at around $1.01, reflecting a decline of approximately 0.7%. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) indicates that ARB remains entrenched in a bearish trend.
Conclusion
Arbitrum's attainment of record daily active addresses is a testament to its growing popularity and dominance in the Ethereum L2 ecosystem. While its transaction counts may not yet match those of its competitors, Arbitrum continues to lead in TVL. However, the bearish price trend of ARB suggests that market participants are not yet fully convinced of the long-term prospects of the L2 solution.
