Aptos Soars in Key Metrics, But Native Token APT Struggles to Keep Pace
May 15, 2024 at 05:35 am
In Q1 2023, Layer 1 blockchain Aptos witnessed significant growth, with a 127% surge in market cap and a 37% increase in protocol revenue. However, its native token, APT, underperformed, gaining only 76% despite a network activity boost of 66% in transactions. Staking declined slightly, but the staked market cap grew by 68%, and the total value locked in Aptos' decentralized finance space skyrocketed by 376%. Despite these positive metrics, APT's price performance has lagged, with a modest 2.7% yearly gain and a current consolidation phase between $8.20 and $8.70.

Aptos Surges in Key Metrics in Q1, but Native Token Lags
The Layer 1 blockchain Aptos has experienced remarkable growth in crucial metrics during the first quarter of 2023, according to a comprehensive report from Messari. However, the blockchain's native token, APT, has underperformed relative to other major cryptocurrencies.
Impressive Gains in Essential Metrics
Aptos' circulating market capitalization surged by an impressive 127% quarter-on-quarter, reaching a staggering $6.6 billion. This surge catapulted Aptos from the 33rd to the 22nd position in terms of market cap among all cryptocurrencies. The blockchain's first-quarter revenue, comprising all protocol-collected fees, also rose by a significant 37%, reaching $475,000.
Network Activity Soars
Aptos' network activity has also seen a surge in the first quarter. Transactions increased by 66% quarter-on-quarter, while active addresses grew by an even more impressive 97%. Despite the increase in transaction activity, the average transaction fee declined by 45% to 0.0006 APT, equivalent to approximately $0.007.
Staked Market Cap and Decentralized Finance
The total value locked (TVL) in Aptos' decentralized finance ecosystem has witnessed a meteoric rise, increasing by 376% quarter-on-quarter to reach $573 million. Notably, this growth is not solely attributed to the appreciation in APT's price, as the TVL also ballooned by 170% in APT terms. Complementing this, Aptos' stablecoin market cap has nearly doubled quarter-on-quarter, reaching $97 million.
Lagging Token Performance
Despite the wealth of positive indicators, APT's price performance has been subdued. The token has declined by over 16% over the past thirty days, resulting in a modest 2.7% gain year-to-date. This performance lags behind the double or triple-digit gains enjoyed by other leading cryptocurrencies.
Market Outlook
As of this writing, APT trades at $8.46, facing resistance at $8.80. This has led to a consolidation period between $8.20 and $8.70 over the past 30 days. Analysts remain cautious regarding APT's short-term price outlook, citing concerns over the token's underperformance and technical indicators suggesting a potential downward trend.
Conclusion
Aptos has made significant strides in terms of essential metrics, but the underperformance of its native token has dampened the enthusiasm surrounding the blockchain. Investors should carefully consider the risks and potential rewards associated with Aptos before making any investment decisions.
